Phillies should take the opportunity to sell. Realmuto, Wheeler, and Nola. Move off some money, get some assets, and restock the farm.

They have financial resources to sign free agents this off-season if they are desperate to win. But it’s obviously not working going all in with this roster core.

They are already at the luxury tax threshold and have heretofore shown little interest spending past it. I can’t imagine they would do it with Harper out.

100%. We know they won't. It'll be good for the rest of the NL East.

I'm not entirely sure how Schwarber got 4 years and Castellanos got 5 year contracts. They do realize there's only one DH, right? No other team will want to get close to those contracts at all unless Philly ate most of the money.

Not in Dombrowski's DNA - they'll have to fire him first.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Goodness… Dansby is up to 3.6 fWAR… not even halfway through and he’s got more fWAR than any full year of his career. Keep it up Dans. May end up best SS in the NL

If you see a lot of posts from me… apologies. I’m at the Admiral’s Club in an 8 hour layover in Dallas living it up with the comp drinks. I’m bored and becoming mildly drunk.

Probably going to be the most interesting re-sign/don't re-sign case of AA's tenure - possibly even more so than Freeman.

With Smith and Duvall coming off the books, could they afford to go 5/75? And would he take it??? If Strider goes back to the pen and Yates returns to health there should be plenty of money available to offer that - especially if Jansen isn't brought back. Could then pivot and make a run at one of Manaea or Clevinger with Kenley's money.

Yeah somebody will give him over 100 million easily. And we can afford pretty much anybody AA wants.

They certainly can't "afford anybody AA wants", but if someone actually does offer Swanson more than $100 million he won't be back here.

The surest way to shorten your window is to give big contracts to players coming off of career years - particularly when those players have never shown signs of being the guy they are during that career year. Folks seem to think Alex will throw money around just because he has it even though he's NEVER done that before.

Ozzie and Acuna get $2 million raises next year and Olson gets an additional $6 million. If neither Fried or Riley are extended, it's perfectly reasonable to expect them to get $10 million worth of arbitration raises combined. That eats up almost all the savings from Duvall and Smith. raises for Minter and McHugh will account for the rest of that. The only other significant contract coming off the books this winter is Jansen's, and Yates' raise will eat up $5 million of that. You'll also have to pay for raises for Wright and Anderson out of that money.

If the Braves give Swanson anything close to $20 million per it will completely destroy their financial flexibility moving forward unless payroll is going to get $20+ million bumps for each year they sign him.

Go back in your hole - market value for a 4 WAR SS is what Correa got - over $30 million per.
