I was under the impression Shuster throws quite a bit harder than Elder.

Yeah Shuster throws hard. He was Cusick’s teammate at WF.

Shuster has a good FB, BUT his calling card is his devastating Change up. The Assistant GM of Player Development rates it the best in the system. It's Glavine-esque (my hyperbole).

Shuster was reportedly 90-92 last night. He was up to 96 his draft year at Wake, but that was based on just a handful of starts during the COVID shutdown year. So we took a gamble that the velocity would stick, and so far, not the case in pro ball.

Not from what I witnessed. He doesn't throw as hard as the gun showed in college but he does mix his pitches very well and keeps hitters off balance.

One thing that doesn’t seem to have changed since the Coppy days is the Braves placing a lot of stock into short term upticks in velocity. It was the driving factor in the Allard pick, and even seems to be the reason they went after Smyly so aggressively.

I’m not sure if it’s a good strategy or not, but it doesn’t seem to pan out very often.

I thought Shuster's best pitch has always been his changeup anyways? Sounds like he's throwing low 90s but with good command and an excellent changeup. To me, he would profile as a back end rotation piece. Obviously when the velocity ticked up to 96-97 before the shutdown there was probably hope that he could be a top of the rotation guy- hence the high draft pick- but solid command and a really good changeup from the left side should still play.

    With a .483 BABIP.

Harris' current batted ball profile is very similar to someone like Hosmer (20%+ LD, 50%+ GB, 20%+ FB).

So if Harris can make the same type of contact, that could lead to some nice .800-.900 OPS seasons, just like it did for Hosmer. Add Duvall-ish defense and some good value on the bases, and that's potentially a guy racking up 4+ win seasons.

I'm thinking an Adam Eaton type of player if he never improves the batted ball profile, and something even better if he adds loft to the swing.

I'd think everyone ought to be absolutely thrilled with 4-5 Eaton-esque seasons from Harris while he's "cheap" - particularly if they come with above-average defense in CF.

What really hurt Eaton IMO - at least as far as the old-school crowd was concerned - was HAVING to move to a corner. Getting 25 or more bombs from your corner guys was still the way teams were built when he came along. Even though most teams either had started becoming more analytically focused or were at least listening a little more to what the numbers guys were teaching them, corner guys who didn't beat teams with bombs were still overlooked by the industry as a whole.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Anyone got a gun recently on Mueller? The thought as I understand it is control would always be the determining factor in his success. So far he's K'd 20 and walked 3 in 15.2 IP. Considering the experts were hoping he could get his BB/9 to 3.5, that's something to get excited about.

If he carries a gun on him, I hope its not on the field and always on safety.
