Is he perhaps more available as a trade piece this year than he was last year? That's certainly possible. But it's one thing to be willing to trade a player as part of a package for another asset and it's another to get rid of that player for nothing. They're not getting rid of Anderson for nothing.
Who said he was a DFA candidate?

No one, directly. But sometimes it's valuable to say a thing out loud just to make sure everyone is on the same page.

    Gotcha.

Yeah, in no way was I implying that would even be a remote possibility. I really hope Anderson is back in Atlanta next year with better control

We have like 13 starters who will be major league ready to some degree next year. Ian already has 2 years of service and he may not be a lock for the major league rotation.

That’s the only reason I think he might be traded. I don’t think he’s done.

You can say Anderson is a trade candidate, but why would you trade him now? His value is probably the lowest it will ever be.

Getting rid of Anderson any way, shape or form doesn’t make a lick of sense right now unless you can find a team to dream big on him and convince them to give you legitimate value. I doubt that’s possible.

I think soroka is a lock, but his health...
    Morton is a possibility
    FA is a possibility
Ian, elder, vodnik, ynoa, muller, and Shuster

I just think ian is facing an uphill battle to be in the rotation, and the others on the bottom line of possibilities can handle the spot starts. I just feel he'll be traded. Should be a fun offseason

It doesn’t matter. You need 7 or 8 viable starting pitchers.

I can see the case for trading Anderson, but it would be a tough pill to swallow if we sell low.

I think it more likely they let him take the offseason to correct whatever issues he had this season. Seems like the stuff is still there, but his control was not. Is that something to do between the ears? Was it some kind of injury coming off the prolonged season last year?

If we get 2020-2021 Anderson next season, that is a big boost.

Braves' Arizona Fall League participants named.

    LHP Alex Segal
    RHP Austin Smith
    RHP Allan Winans
    SS Cal Conley
    3B/OF Justyn-Henry Malloy

Interesting group and here's a little bit more about each of them.

Segal had some buzz as a high school player out of Scottsdale, Arizona, and was drafted in the 37th round by the Blue Jays in 2016. He did not sign with the Jays and went to Wichita State, where he was injured (and redshirted) as a freshman. Pitched two years for the Shockers with mixed results. Great K numbers and iffy BB numbers. That pattern has followed him throughout his career. Braves drafted him in the 22nd round in 2019 as a draft-eligible sophomore. After pitching for the Braves' Danville team in 2019, he didn't pitch in 2020 due to the shutdown of minor league baseball. He didn't pitch in 2021 due to injury and pitched 14.2 innings split between Augusta and Rome in 2022. Control was improved this year.

Smith spent the whole season in Rome. Played four years at Soutwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, before transferring to Arizona for his COVID bonus year in 2021. Was Braves 18th round draft pick in 2021. Pitched briefly for Augusta in 2021. Great strikeout numbers (11.3/9) and walk rate isn't terrible (3.3/9). 4.62 ERA looks to be a bit misleading given his 1.151 WHIP and very good HR rate.

Winans, at age 27, is a bit of a puzzler to me. Drafted as a four-year senior in the 17th round by the Mets in 2018 after pitching 2 years at Bakersfield (CA) College and 2 years at Campbell (NC) University. Pitched fairly well in the Mets' system, but like so many others lost the 2020 season due to the shutdown. Braves claimed him off waivers in December, 2021, and he pitched at three stops during the 2022 season (FCL, Gwinnett, then Mississippi). Braves used him as a starting pitcher this year after being used exclusively as a reliever by the Mets. Solid numbers at Mississippi.

Conley was the Braves' 4th rounder in 2021 and has yet to match the expectations placed on him as one of the best hitting SSs in the 2021 draft. Split time between Augusta and Rome in 2022. He's guy for whom I would like to see Statcast numbers on. K and BB rates fall within normal parameters, but his batting average and power numbers don't mirror what he did as a draft-eligible sophomore at Texas Tech. Switch-hitter with fairly even splits.

Malloy, while not coming out of nowhere, has certainly been a pleasant surprise in 2022. Highly-regarded high school player out of New Jersey, he was a considered a tough-sign and was not drafted. Went to Vanderbilt, where he hardly played as a freshman in 2019 and sophomore in 2020 (of coure, no one played much in 2020 because of the aforementioned shutdown). Transferred to Georgia Tech and had a extremely good season (.980 OPS). Braves placed him in Augusta for 2021 season where he had a solid debut. Played at Rome and Mississippi in 2022. Walk rate remains strong and K-rate jumped a bit, which isn't all that surprising after a move up in levels. Listed as an IF on the Arizona Fall League roster, but has been in LF in 48 of the 51 games he has played in Mississippi since his promotion. With Riley already at 3B and Grissom also playing that position, it's my guess that Malloy will either be in the OF or 1B in Arizona.

I don't think so. I think his 6 million buyout is already guaranteed. I think someone would definitely give him at least 6 million on 1 year deal somewhere else.

I really hope you're right. I don't want him back anymore than I want Olson (Chris Davis 2.0) back

Soroka shelled again. Muller shelled in his last two as well.

Good thing you only need 4 SPs during the playoffs.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I figured it’d take Soroka longer than a few starts to be ready. He hasn’t really pitched in 2 years so it’s gonna take a while to knock the rust off.
