The difference is Fried and Wright had measurably good stuff to work with.

We don't need ynoa and/or muller to TOR types like fried and wright. I solid 4 would be just fine with me

Just seeing folks refer to Wright as a TOR guy and me not having any way to really dispute that comment makes me smile.

I was so excited when the Braves were able to draft him, and so disappointed when he could never seem to figure things out. I really hope he’s turned into the guy we were stoked fell to the Braves at pick 5.

He had 3.2 bWAR in his first 2 seasons as a starter (260 innings). That's more than a few good starts.

If I remember correctly, his FIP, xFIP etc… were all way higher
3.2 bWAR through his first 2 seasons would suggest he was every bit a solid MOR over that span. He quickly lost it however. In ST 2019 he couldn't find the strike zone and got lit up when he did. They moved him to the pen and had a great season. Then was trash after that.

I'm still worried this is just a hot stretch. He hasn't really been dominant at any point as a professional. But so far he passes the smell test, both on his underlying stats and visually. Would be nice to have another TOR type of starter for the next ~5 years.

    Muller out after 99 pitches...
    6.2 ip 3 h 3 er 0 bb 8 k
    Season era at 3.00

Interesting that he was pulled with 1 out to go in 6th. Could they be thinking of saving his arm for Atlanta?

Wright has never pitched a full season. And snit seems to like extending him to 100 pitches without thinking about how it might affect his arm down the line.

same goes for strider. Snit is maxing their arms out now for some reason.

Probably not a bad idea to work in a ynoa/muller start in for wright and strider some the next month

Waters' overall numbers have crashed, but he's made tremendous improvement in k rate, 26.3% now. He's having a good day today, so maybe he's about to be on the right track

Milligan and Malloy are having great seasons at Rome. Are they just benefiting bc of college experience or are they real prospects?

Malloy is certainly a prospect. Milligan is tougher because he’s been around longer and hasn’t really had sustained success until this year

That’s all fine and dandy but even when he was “good” his peripherals were clear he was very lucky and not actually good

Are people in 2022 really arguing whether Newcomb was ever a legit MLB starting pitcher.

Guess it's according to what you look at. In 2018, his FIP and xFIP were 4+. His xwoba was .297 and his xERa was 3.71

ETA... enscheff (pretty smart dude) seems to put a lot of weight in xwoba for pitchers, so I lean toward not lucky in 2018. It was .306 in 2019.
