Pache's numbers really are staggering. Sample size concerns and all that, but man, the guy's now at 251 at-bats with a .419 OPS. I don't think even the most pessimistic among us thought that was possible. I distinctly remember thinking, "Well, all he needs to do with his defense is hit to a .600 OPS and he can still have value." A .600 OPS seems almost impossible for him now.

I feel tremendously bad for the kid. Hope he can turn it around somehow.

Me too. He truly works hard. Doesn't account for a lot but I wish him well.

I think plenty of people suggested the worst case scenario was a no power defensive cf that also didn't have much of a hit tool.

There’s a big gap between “a no power defensive cf that also [doesn’t] have much of a hit tool” and some of the worst position player production ever, which is what he’s shown so far.

Meanwhile, speaking of MIFs drafted in 2019, I'd like to see a promotion for Cody Milligan soon.

He's always sported good-to-great walk-rates, but he's over 18% now, with a strikeout-rate under 20%. Yes, his .419 BABIP is why he's hitting .320 all the sudden, but the .450 OBP is no joke; and with a .405 woba in 200+ PA, it seems time for a bigger challenge, especially given he's 23 in A+, and the lack of a 2020 season (as a 2019 draftee) probably held him back a decent amount in 2021.

He's probably not a serious starter-level prospect, but as a lefty-hitting MIF with one elite skill (plate discipline / OBP), it'd be nice to have an inkling whether he's worth protecting from the Rule 5 this winter. Finishing the season out in AA would help with that, and Mississippi doesn't have any other 2Bs I'd rather see getting PAs over Milligan.

It's a good call.

With the mashers in our long term core, a high OBP guy with good defense would be valuable. Even if he's a fill in guy if we have an injury like Ozzie this year he's valuable. Maybe he's a cheap and quality bench option.

Muller has really cut down the walks at AAA… he’s at an average under 3 per 9 now. And that’s even inflated because of his first few bad AAA starts. If the command improvement is real and it translates to the MLB… he could end up being another real weapon as his raw stuff seems pretty nasty.

Yup all really good improvement. I still would like him to stay in AAA the whole season if possible to really get his confidence up

Jay Jackson has started his rehab in the complex league - sneaky acquisition by Alex who could help the pen in the second half. Yates should be starting his soon - his TJS was performed on 03/24/21, so that's 15 months out.
