Fried is worthy of the legacy of Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine.

Quality win right there fellas. Harris continues to impress as does Biggio in the Dansby costume.
Love our new low leverage pitcher too. These are the teams that good teams are supposed to carve up, and we brought out a nice array of cutlery. Looking forward to more bouncing Emmas and Ellies tomorrow!

It's debatable. Fried's FIP is a half run lower than Alcantara's. Also Snitker gets to make the decision on who gets to start the game. He needs to do the right thing and give it to Fried.

Agreed. Choose your own guy in that situation but it’s not like he doesn’t deserve it.

IIRC the issue with the second Padres trade was always about throwing BJ Upton in the deal to get out from under his contract. If we had just dealt Kimbrel on his own we could’ve gotten a lot more.

This is correct. We were basically rebuilding so paying BJ through that period meant nothing but money. We should have kept him and made him play on a crappy team just for being a crappy, lazy player. Plus, we could have increased the return for Craig.

Time for a Cy Young Watch for Fried

    NL Ranks

    fWAR: 1st
    FIP: 2nd
    ERA: 8th
    Wins: 3rd

That being said. Knowing the voters I'd say Gonsolin is the front runner. Dude somehow is 10-0 with a league leading 1.54 ERA. He's living the Julio Teheran life with a 186 BABIP. lmao

Of course it was, but tehteh is only capable of clinging into whatever small part of a larger discussion that jives with whatever narrative is stuck in his head.

Nobody hated the Fried return, but some questioned how much value the Braves were pouring into arms. Considering how few panned out, it turns out the criticism was justified.

Was it justified? I admit I wanted us to focus on position guys based on the data of success. Not sure what position guys were offered. I know there were guys in the draft I wanted. Wright is the only first round pitcher I wanted.

That said they did manage to land 3b and ss for a multi division winner and ws champ. Did land cf in Harris. New group for Harris but still pitching focus.

C, 2b and rf from international.

Pitching fried, Anderson and wright. Folty was good for a while. Wentz and allard were useful trade chips. Minter. Luke Jackson. Mueller still has a shot to provide some value. They hit at a decent rate

Honestly it has to be a case study that would be taught on rebuilding if there was a degree in gm. Just avoid the getting banned from the sport part.

The Braves dealt away a lot of MLB talent, and any competent GM would be able to get roughly the same future value. We obviously don’t know what kind of positional talent may have been offered, so all we can do is assume they consciously targeted arms, which are objectively more risky assets.

The best part of the rebuild was the decision to start it before the team had nothing of value to trade. We’ve seen plenty of teams ride their core to the bitter end and turn a 2-3 year rebuild into one that lasts 5+ years…or worse.
