Freeman really is the next Chipper Jones. He terrorizes the Mets. He signs fair long term deal with the Braves. Now he just needs to name one of his kids Citi. Now Freeman is gonna hit like the 2000 Chipper Jones minus 15 stolen bases.

He could very well equal Votto this season.
He could equal Votto, or he could be worse, or he could be better, who knows But over the last 4 years, only Miguel Cabrera and Robinson Cano had a higher fWAR than Votto. Despite playing in way less games than those 2. In fact in a cursory look of the top 30 over that time, only Trout, Longo, and Miggy beat him in WAR/Game. Votto has been special over a long time, that's why he got paid. Freeman will certainly be better than Votto over their contract because I can't see Votto being a 5+ WAR player for the remainder of his contract.

Chipper just tweeted that his chauffeuring fee is going up. Also wants Freddie to treat him to dinner.

    Votto/Freeman.

Freeman's contract if this is true is more fair than Votto's.

Votto while awesome, arguably/probably the best 1B in baseball has had some injuries.

Freeman isnt as good but 5 mil per year worse, meh.

The other big difference is Votto's contract takes him through his age 39 season. Freddie's apparently will take him through age 31.

Freddie is still improving. Votto, as good as he is, is on the wrong side of 30.

The question now becomes which player becomes the 2nd cornerstone JUp or Jason? Good day to be a Braves fan...

Whose to say they cant keep both?

I would venture to guess they'd try to keep JUp if Heyward wont sign longterm.

Ideally sign both to longterm deals along with Simba.

Some money off the books with Uggla, and Kimbrel being traded most likely after next year.

If it really is 125M over 8 years, I would have to say this is a very good deal for the team. About 20M below what I would consider fair value. As Braves fan, I tip cap to Frank and Freddie.

I think the preferred plan remains to keep Freeman, Simba and Heyward. Hopefully, the latter two will agree to something as team-friendly as what Freeman just agreed to.

It is potentially a very good plan. You keep the core. And collect some extra draft picks when the others hit free agency.

This is great news in an otherwise very disappointing offseason. Kudos to Frank Wren for getting this done!

I have a feeling Heyward was offered another long term deal and he declined. I'd concentrate on Simmons and Upton. But this is awesome news about Freddie!

I'd rather have Heyward than Upton but wouldn't mind if Justin stayed long term because Heyward felt like smoking NYC crack.

    For sure.

Only thing with JUp is i worry about he may age, so im not sure there but not a bad fallback option if they cant keep Heyward longterm (decent possibility)

With Simmons, what do they strcture it after?

    Only really Castro is compareable.
