My 2 biggest concerns for Griss is his plate discipline and his arm. Both can improve at his age, so I am on board with giving him a shot.

His K to BB ratio is not great. Pitchers will exploit that if he doesn't improve it.

I’m personally not worried about his plate discipline. It was great in the minors and he will adjust

Mets extend Jeff McNeil 4 years / $50m with an option for a 5th year that could push the deal to $63.75

Well he's already 31 this season. And had 2 more years of arbitration.

also had a high BABIP and an xwOBA well below his wOBA.

That’s true for his entire career. He’s clearly an outlier

What's weird is his barrel% is shockingly low. 120th in baseball last year. Exit Velo only a bit better (114) and 120 in hard hit%

Like he is super lucky but as you've said he's been consistent with it. Some guys are just plain lucky. But he could be due for a late career let down as well.

Mets won't care they can eat that contract.

last year was his highest BABIP since 63 games his rookie year, also the largest delta between xwOBA and xOBA since then. so yes i expect his BABIP and wOBA to be higher than metrics call for, i still don’t expect a .353 BABIP moving forward.

I still don't get fans who praise the Braves for not being interested in a talent like Bauer, yet praise a guy like Cox. Is one guy any different than the other??

I guess Twitner is in the same boat.. I know he has said how much he respected Cox.. I guess hitting your wife back then was ok.. it is only bad in todays world. Or Maybe it was because he was such an awesome manager winning all those games with 6 HOF'rs on his team..

His wOBA was .365. His career wOBA is .357. It’s not even like last year was a career year for him. He’s arguably had two better seasons.

This is just who he’s always been.

We don't really know the full details Bobby Cox situation because it was 25+ years ago and the media wasn't what it is today. Not that hitting a female is ever ok, but graphic details certainly paint a darker picture in people's minds and affect their view on people. Certainly we look at the Ray Rice situation far differently than we do something like Adrian Peterson or Zeke Elliot.

But also, while both acts are reprehensible, there's a pretty vast divide in despicableness between domestic violence and sexual assault.

Also, Bobby’s was an isolated case (as far as we’re aware). One minor incident, even with something as serious as DV, doesn’t erase a lifetime of good deeds.

Now we justify everything as ‘degrees of despicable’ and ‘he only got caught once’. The fact is that neither guy was convicted. One hit a woman while having sex and the other hit her while arguing. The only truth we know is that both guys hit a woman. That is it.

I don’t really care about Bauer being a Brave or someone loving Bobby. I just think one should be consistent with condemnation when the act is pretty similar.

Yes, society has always had "degrees of dispicability." It's why the penalities for DV are generally substantially less severe than sexual assault. The acts are not similar in any sense. You have be pretty ****ing evil to commit sexual assault.
