know he’s not been good but Brian Anderson’s price can’t be high and think he could adequately backup 3B to give Riley some rest. might be able to rediscover some of his solid bat.

Passan: BREAKING: Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.
No idea what his medical SS are but I’d much rather take that risk with this contract than what the Cubs did with Dansby.
This weakens the Mets. They’re no better than they were last year.

Obviously two teams having a physical worry is concerning, but I will admit, there is a big part of me that feels like we should have swooped in and done this deal. Feels like a reasonable value, 6 years is a livable contract, surely we can afford it, and he is the exact missing piece we need.
If it's true we are right at or just over the luxury tax. This 33 AAV would cost the Braves close to 40 million in 2023.
I doubt the Braves have an extra 40 million in their budget for the upcoming season. The team is top 5 payroll as is and more than most here could have thought possible when AA first took over.
I am pretty sure the Braves don't have room in budget to swing 33 million based on the extreme front load of the Murph deal. I think we might have 10-15 for the deadline.. I said back in Nov. that we are done with anything big and nothing has proven me wrong yet.
Personally I think the Turner deal was the best of the offseason and would have been a great fit for the Braves if they had the money.

On the bright side - great news Mets lost him. Sure they can spend elsewhere, but not like there are other Correa's just lying around in free agency. Per 162 that's basically a 6-7 WAR player they just lost. That could very well be the difference in winning and losing division. About as big of a division odds swing on any given day we will see.
That's wild. I would have done 6/200 if I was AA, but whatever. Lol Mets.
For the “why we should frontload contracts” crowd… I found this interesting. You typically don’t see contracts structured liked this.
It makes sense that the non-guaranteed years would be lower AAV. But I’m surprised to see the guaranteed years frontloaded so heavily, especially for a team that will never come close to the luxury tax. I wonder if they agreed to this close the deal.
Carlos Correa contract:
Signing bonus: $8M
2023: $36 million
2024: $36 million
2025: $36M
2026: $31.5M
2027: $30.5M
2028: $30M
Non-guaranteed
2029: $25 million
2030: $20 million
2031: $15 million
2032: $10 million
If those vesting options get met then the twins have huge value at the end of that contract. And if they want to bail he should be easy to trade since his salary decreases after 3 years. I could see the twins getting a big return for him in about 4 years.
