I agree. The Nick Anderson signing with the option to stash him in AAA is a great deal.

This will be the best move of the offseason for any team if best case scenario occurs. I doubt it will, but you never know.

I think is a great move but we still need another lefty. I don’t trust AJ Minter.

The braves aren't gonna get any of the big name SS. I just have a feeling. Gonna suck too if the Phillies add turner

I thought the Cubs would be the team that tried the hardest to get Swanson. He’ll be the cheapest of the 4 SS and probably the first one to sign bc Boras wants his to be the last 2 standing. If AA really wanted Swanson I figure it would have been done before now and I had the same feeling about Freeman last year at this time.

I still think we get 1 of the 4. I’ll guess Swanson, Turner, Correa, Xander in that order.

I am find if some way we can add Haniger and Degrom. Trade Ozuna and Grissom to short.

I know Haniger is not impossible. Degrom…

Agreed. I feel that we are going to land somewhere in that order. But I do see us seeing competition from the Cubs and Dodgers regarding Swanson. I don't want to get into a bidding war with the Phillies over Turner. Hoping that AA can land one of them early so we can all exhale and look to next season.

However, when it comes to Swanson, I wouldn't be as hurt or upset if he left (and was replaced with one of the other top 4) like I was with Freeman. Nothing against Swason, but Freeman was my favorite Brave since Chipper.

AA has always surprised us. He puts the lineup together with the best available option for the team going forward. I guess it would come down to if they feel that Arcia and Grissom can cover SS for 162 games. I honestly feel that Grissom was exposed late in the season and still needs some fine tuning in AAA. He has a chance to be a good ball player for us going forward.

I wonder if he'd make some fringe signings to increase overall depth rather than one massive signing. For instance, trade Ozuna/Rosario, bring in Michael Brantley, Elvis Andrus, and Brandon Drury. Those guys would increase some of the overall roster flexibility. We wouldn't have a power threat really for DH however in that scenario

That would make the team a lot deeper for sure. Only way we could do that is to trade for a cheaper SS like Rosario or Adames. I’d be fine with Adames if we added those other guys to make the team as a whole stronger. An Adames, Drury, Brantley, Duvall offseason while getting rid of Ozuna and Rosario wouldn’t be bad at all.

I could be offbase, but I feel like Adames is probably underrated everywhere but Milwaukee. Doubt he comes cheaply.

I want Verlander. We almost had him last fall. What would it take?

I mean, he was worth almost 5 fwar last season, so I'd be surprised if he's underrated by actual front offices. FGDC and Steamer both actually project him to slightly out-produce Dansby, by fwar, in 2023: 3.7/3.9 versus 3.3/3.2, mostly on the strength of better power projection.

With Swanson, as I'm sure we're all well-aware, so much depends on how you view his 2022 when projecting him going forward. While it was written back in mid-June (when Swanson was "only" pegged to finish around 5.5 fwar for the season), Szymborski had this to say:

    ZiPS Projection – Dansby Swanson
Year BA OBP SLG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB OPS+ DR WAR
    2023 .266 .328 .432 576 81 153 30 3 20 79 51 156 15 100 3 3.5
    2024 .266 .328 .443 542 77 144 30 3 20 76 48 142 14 102 2 3.4
    2025 .264 .325 .438 523 73 138 28 3 19 73 46 135 12 100 1 3.0
    2026 .262 .324 .426 500 68 131 25 3 17 68 44 125 11 97 0 2.6
    2027 .258 .317 .413 477 63 123 23 3 15 62 40 116 9 92 -1 2.0
    2028 .254 .310 .394 452 57 115 20 2 13 56 35 102 8 86 -2 1.3

A $200 million bonanza isn’t in the works unless there’s an unexpected bacchanale of spending on the horizon, but ZiPS projects that a good deal for Swanson would easily go into nine-digit territory. The 15.7 WAR projected in the next six years isn’t a galaxy below the pre-2022 projections for Seager (18.1) or Story (15.9). Nor is it a far cry from the options at the top of the market; over the same period, Turner is projected for 19.9 WAR, Correa at 19.1 WAR, and Bogaerts at 14.9 WAR.

The thing that worries me about Swanson is that he can be a very streaky player. And when he is in a bad stretch, it can go for a long time and he be among the worst hitters in the game. His defense is always there. But as he gets older, how good will his highs be?

I understand that every player slumps, (as we saw with Olson this season), but it just scares the hell out of me with Swanson in particular.

It would take Houston not wanting him. If Crane wants him back, he'll be back.
