FG Top 50 FAs with Prices

FG just released their FA contract projections: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-top-50-free-agents/

    Of note:

    Turner: 9/288
    Correa: 10/300
    Xander: 7/217
    Swanson: 6/144

These all fall right in line with what we've long expected. Correa and Turner pushing $300M, Xander priced as a SS that won't stick at SS long, and Swanson getting something just beating the Baez/Story contracts from last year.

    deGrom: 3/141
    Verlander: 2/80
    Rodon: 5/120

This is the group of impact SPs, and the costs are as expected. The dreams of getting deGrom on a 1 year deal were always unrealistic, but who knows if he tanks his own market.

    Rizzo: 2/32

Not a target for the Braves, but an example of the average+ MLB 1B available every single offseason that the Braves could have targeted instead of extending Olson. I still think the correct course of action would have been to make the Olson trade, let him walk after his arb years, and then continue to pick up short term solutions at 1B until Riley needs to move across the diamond.

    Benintendi: 4/56
    Conforto: 1/12

As far as I can tell these are the only realistic FA options for LF. No thanks to 4 years of Benintendi, but if Conforto can really be had for $12M on a "prove it" deal I think he's a prime target for AA.

Conforto and a decent SS is priority imo. Dumping Ozuna and sorryio are my dreams.

Projecting 7 for Bogaerts surprises me (and I guess I'll have to see it to believe it), but if the team that signs him with the knowledge he'll be at 3B (or 2B) in couple of years and has a SS in their pipeline, it's plausible.

With you on the Olson angle. I didn't mind the trade, but was a bit surprised (and not in a good way) with the immediate extension.

Looking at the Fangraphs list, there are a ton of interesting pitching options (Eovaldi, Taillon, T. Anderson) below the first tier guys and I imagine that's where the Braves will look.

Clevinger seems like an ideal AA target. Former stud, coming off TJ. Sign him to the 1 year, prove it deal and then bounce., Best case, he shows he has something left in the tank. Worst case, we let him go

We have two candidates on the roster for that… Soroka and Anderson. There’s just not enough innings to go around to appeal to a guy like Clevinger who is likely looking for a pillow deal.

Good lord, I guess I would take Swanson out of all that. All I see in those lists is potential massive mistakes. Inwood take Verlander on that deal too but I doubt we could get him.

No. And it would certainly change things if he didn't.

With him having a $6M or $6.5M buyout, I don't see how he wouldn't opt out. He should have no problem getting more than $7M on the open market.

How sure are we that Odo gets 1 year $7m?

I imagine at this point in his career he is probably looking for guaranteed innings, and the Braves probably aren’t in a position to offer him that, so he might decline anyways. But this was definitely a risk when AA made that trade.

At this point, he is still a serviceable 5th starter. That probably puts him in the $8-10m area. There are always teams looking for that.

Worst case scenario for his, he is the long man out of a pen and spot starter....Still an $8m arm.
