5 players from the mid 90's team now in the hall. Still time to get a 6th.

If Murphy had played for the Yankees or Cubs he'd have been elected within a couple years of being eligible.

Wonder if McGriff will elect to go in with a blank plaque? He came up with the Jays and played in parts of 5 seasons with them, but he also played in parts of 5 seasons in ATL. He arguably had his most success in ATL too, winning his only WS here while collecting 3 of his 5 AS appearances.

Tampa is also a possibility, but he didn't spend as much time there and that time was spent in the twilight of his career.

    It’s gotta be ATL.

You say that but Don Mattingly literally got denied on this ballot and they have very similar cases.

It's a shame Murph and Mattingly didn't get more love. Both are HOF-caliber players and individuals. If you are putting together a 25-man roster of the decade of the '80s both make it without question. Eventually, both will get in but it may be posthumously. As for Bonds, Schilling, and Clemens screw them. At a point in their careers, they decided glory was more important than dignity and respect for the game. The sad part is Bonds and Clemens were Hall worthy without the help. Can't say that about Schilling conclusively.

Schilling doesn't belong in the same camp as Clemens and Bonds. What's keeping Schilling out are literally things he's said/done after he retired.

As for Mattingly and Murphy. They had high peaks but not enough body of work to get into the HOF. McGriff's career should be about as low of a threshold as there is to get in. The one guy from the 80's who should be looked at above Murph and Mattingly is Keith Hernandez.

If i'm not mistaken, I don't believe Schilling has been tied to steroids. The reason he has not been selected is that no one likes him because of how outspoken he is regarding radical and extreme conspiracies....Honestly, don't feel like that should keep him out of the hall. If they were looking for only nice guys, Ty Cobb wouldn't be in there.....

I don't think anyone attached to steroids will ever get in. The writers and players both seem to hold the integrity part of the game in tact which I feel they should. If you let one steroid user in, it is a slippery slope to letting all cheaters in. This would also have to include Pete Rose who is banned for life for betting on baseball. IMO, as much as he deserves to be in, this is the bed he made.

Murph's a two-time MVP as a Braves fan I don't see how you can be against enshrinement. His body of work is fine it was the last decade of real fair baseball in more ways than one.

We've already set the new standard of it being a big hall rather than a small hall. Murphy was among the very best players offensively in the '80s.

Because I can be a non-homer and look at things objectively. 44 career WAR just isn't good enough.

Exactly, best in the league for two years and has the awards to show for it.

A silly stat that didn't exist in the 80s should not be held against him.

A stat that's pretty accurate at gauging who's HOF worthy. He just wasn't good enough for long enough. Not the only player to have that issue.
