    Let's talk roster

We've gotten about 1/3 of the way through April and we've already have dealt with several injuries that may reshape the roster going forward

The following are the ideal lineups in my opinion going forward.

    Acuņa RF
    Olson 1B
    Riley 3B
    TDA DH-Full time
    Harris ll CF
    Murphy C
    Arcia SS
    Albies 2B
    Grissom LF

    That leaves a bench of

    Tromp
    Pillar
    Rosario
    Hilliard

From what I've seen so far I've got the following filling out the rotation.

    Fried
    Strider
    Wright
    Morton
    Elder

And when Iglesias and McHugh return I think we go with this pen.

    Iglesias
    Minter
    Jimenez
    McHugh
    Lee
    Chavez
    Yates
    Luetge

I'm not sure TDA catches again this year. Coming off his 4th concussion he may just become the full time DH and 3rd C whenever he returns. With TDA DHing everyday that doesn't leave any room for Ozuna. Calling up Grissom to play LF allows us to keep the other OFs and move Grissom around the diamond as needed.

As for pitching Shuster and Dodd need more seasoning and I'm still of the opinion that I'll believe Soroka can pitch at the MLB level once I see it. Elder should be able to keep the 5th spot for now and Soroka should get his opportunity when the next spot becomes available. Then Dodd and then reevaluate where we are with Shuster and Anderson.

What's everyone else thinking? Is this an overreaction an underreaction or just about right

Dunno. TDA is really good with this pitching staff.

I don't disagree but the team seems to be far more concerned with his post baseball career health as they should be.

Murphy could also benefit from those full time reps as well

I doubt that’s the longterm plan, unless the concussion issues really linger, but I could see easing d’Arnaud back in as a DH-only for the first few weeks after he returns.

Meanwhile, I wish any team would trade the Braves anything for Ozuna, at this point. Hopefully the team will just nut up and cut him. (I don’t have much hope for Rosario, either, but he’ll probably get a longer leash since he’s technically not DH-only.)

I do think Murphy will officially take over as the primary catcher and TD will move into a bigger DH role but I think he still catches two or three times a week when he's ready.

Optioned back to AAA in order to keep 3 lefties. He'd be the first pitcher back.

yeah, I am not keeping a guy because of handedness over superior talent. I am fine if you think Nick is worse than any of those lefties.. but if not, then you keep your best relivers and live with what side they throw from.

I'm not so sure. Keeping him at DH maximizes his bat while massively lowering the risk of another concussion. He will probably be dealing with life long issues as is.

I'm sure Anderson will have plenty of opportunities as each pitcher finds himself on the IL for one reason or another. He's just one of the few pitchers with options.

I get what you are saying and I think it will be very interesting what decision will be made when Riggy is ready, because you are right, they can either option Nick or release Luetge/Yates... I think the others are safe imo.

I'd have to think that one outfielder would have to go to keep another infield reserve.

Gotta be Pillar. His floor and ceiling are lower than anyone else on the roster.

I think either Pillar or Hilliard could go in this scenario. Hilliard at least looks like a decent back-up in CF and although it's a very small sample size, a 59% K-rate doesn't do much for me.

ozuna has to go. His roster spot is killing us.

That is the only change I'd make.

Ozuna is bad. But the lineup tonight currently has Ozuna, Rosario, and Hillard in it. The bottom half is just bad especially with Albies struggling. Getting TDA and MHII back really diminishes how ugly the LF spot is right now.

Where does Sean Murphy rank in terms of greatest Braves backup catchers ever?

He's no Hank White. In fact, I don't think he holds a candle to Charlie O'Brien or Paul Bako either.
