Chopping With The Braves And Rolling With The Tide
He’s a great choice. He did a great job calling Georgia Tech games. We love him.

Will be an improvement. I just need to know how he feels about RBIs and Pitcher wins as well as how he calls fly balls.
My chief requirement is to never hear, "And there's a drive! How far is this baby gonna go? Aaaand, the shortstop settles under it for the third out. BJ, off the bat it seemed like that really had some carry."

Gaudin is a great choice. He’s done a lot of national broadcasts for Fox and he’s been the voice of Madden for a while now.
I’m not sure where he sits with analytics but he’s not corny which is a huge step up from loveable Chip.

I thought he was the voice of Madden.
God damn it. This makes me love Skip even more.
I got to meet him once at the Ted. He had that BBQ place out in the plaza and my dad and I were just walking into the ball park. He was standing out front just waiting for people to come up and say hello. Nicest dude ever
Get off my lawn!
Gaudin used to call Tech football when Paul Johnson was running the Spread Option; Gaudin spoke numbers and was always prepared for every interview/conversation/radio show. I would be shocked if he wasn’t on the analytical side of things.
His interviews were intelligent and straight to the point, but he consistently came off as funny and personable.

I don't need the announcer to be analytically minded. I need the announcer to not badmouth the entire modern sport of baseball for 30 minutes during the 4th inning of every single game.
As long as he doesn't do that any shmuck that can speak reasonably well is fine with me. These guys don't tell you anything you aren't already seeing on the screen.
I miss Pete Van Wieren. And Skip. And Ernie.
They’ll never be able to recapture that level of magic.
But I’ll accept this dude with open ears- as long as he clearly understands something: he’s going to be a part of my family’s evening every night all summer long. He best do a good job. If not, I’ll be forced to whip his ass.
He seems like a really good fit and he's a massive Braves homer, which helps lol
They badmouth it as a defense mechanism. Guys like Smoltz and Glavine feel threatened by the thought that modern analytics suggest what they did isn't as great as it was. A guy famous and considered "great" for making contact is obviously going to recoil at the realization that contact by itself is not very valuable.
The actual truth is that Smoltz and Glavine probably would have adapted their games to fit within modern analytics, just like they fit their games to the current baseball meta back then. In fact, I bet Smoltz would have been even better had he played in the modern game. Smoltz as an Astro in 2020 would possibly be the best pitcher on the planet.
