clvclv has made the journey beyond the Field of Dreams.

Late post, but this was mentioned in another thread and I had no idea.

    April 12, 1969 - October 16, 2022

Christopher Lee VanDyke passed away on the morning of Sunday, October 16, 2022, at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Burke County.

Christopher was born on April 12, 1969, in Burke County, to the late Jerry Lee VanDyke and Mary Evelyn White VanDyke. He was an avid golfer He also loved the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Tar Heels. Christopher formally helped with the McDowell Titans Booster Club and was a member of a number of NC appraisal organizations. Christopher was a loving son, brother and uncle and was known as a good friend to everyone he met.

When I was making my road trip a few years ago hiking in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, clvclv and I were supposed to have dinner for some North Carolina BBQ. He was an hour from where I had hiked (Mount Mitchell State Park). Plans fell though unfortunately, as he was taking care of his sick father. We spoke on the phone for a solid 45 minutes or so as I was driving back towards Asheville, this was shortly after the Game 7 Dodgers COVID-NLCS in Texas. He really wanted to come out and meet with me, but his father was in rough shape. I regret we never crossed paths. He was in Atlanta a few times I happened to be in town for the weekend, but he had other things going on. And the few times I was in the Asheville area, he couldn't break from his work and caretaking schedule.

Love him or hate him, you knew he was a constant on this board with us for many many years. He enjoyed making those projected payroll spreadsheets, and people always gave him **** for quoting his own 6 paragraph posts, and responding with even more paragraphs.

He was an OG member of the Scout community, dating even before that @Metaphysicist could expound on that a bit more.

One of my favorite laughs, was looking up the web search data and traffic of this little website, and one of the leading google searches that lead to this website was "What is a clvclv?"

It appears clvclv passed away almost a week exactly to the year our old friend rico43 also made the walk across the chalk to the Field of Dreams. May they both be having a cup of coffee watching a game up there somewhere.

    Rest easy my friend.
    Forever Fredi

He had a style all his own (and needed to be reminded from time-to-time that paragraphs are your friend), but I got along with him fairly well. Sent him a couple of old Greenville Braves' items I had collected over the years awhile back and I hope he had some time to enjoy them. A bit of a historian, he knew quite a bit about high school and college prospects in North Georgia and the Carolinas. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Man I hated to see this. He could be annoying (like all of us) but he was one of us and he’ll be missed. Prayers to his family.

RIP clvclv. We all spend so much time on here that posters who we haven't met in person start to feel like family. Sorry to hear this news, and his posts will be missed.

He embodied a message board poster in so many ways. I won’t lie - I probably skipped 99% of his posts because they needed chapters. But guys like him are what give an online community a soul in a way even the smartest, most thoughtful posters can’t.

A true original on this board. Thoughts and condolences to his family.

clvclv always low key asked if I was gonna ban him, because he was such a lightning rod for controversy on here and his posts would really annoy and rile people up sometimes.

He would send me a PM me saying "I expect you to go ahead and ban me any day now. I'm sorry for causing a headache on the board"

I told him many times that's not my style, and I found his posts entertaining even if I didn't always agree with the substance of what he posted.

the reason I like this place over any other message board is the core of posters we have. We bicker and pick and sometimes cross the line, but in the end, we stay and contribute in our own special way. Losing guys like Rico, AA and Clv make this place feel a bit more empty. They all had a style and way about their posts that made it who they were. I have not met anyone on this board in person, but everyone of you has your own special persona in my head. you all are like friends that I never knew but still know a lot about. It is sad when a piece of our community is gone (too soon I might add), but his place, his style, and his persona will always be remembered as long as I continue to grace these pages with my friends.

CLV, sorry I won't ever again get to start reading one of your posts and then skip to the bottom hoping for a summary... sorry I will never get to ask you what a clv even is.. but I hope you knew that you were important here and that you were above all else a Friend!! RIP!!

Actually, I was born the year the Braves moved from Boston to Milwaukee. My first baseball memory (and it's simply a vague recollection) was my mother listening to the 1957 World Series on the radio (Braves v. Yankees).

But this thread isn't about me. Rest in Peace clvclv. Truly original.

And kudos to you Sav for keeping this an open place and not having a heavy hand. It says a lot about clvclv that he thought he was going to get shown the gate, but I never found anything he wrote to be within a light year of deserving any kind of censure.

Yeah, I am not a stat freak superfan type but have been a baseball fan since I was 5 or 6, which is over 60 years.

Found the core of fans at whatever preceded scout.com/Bill Shanks, I forget the name of it. But clvclv was one of the cast all the way, I am sorry to hear that he will no longer be making posts and watching Braves games. RIP buddy.
