Shewmake is interesting for sure. I think everyone’s big concern with Grissom is the defense. If he can’t handle it defensively, it’s nice to have a cheap alternative like Shewmake who we know can at least defend, even if it costs some offense.

For sure- Shewmake looking serviceable gives us some breathing room. Sure haven't seen much of Arcia.

He played 2B today.. I still would be fine cutting him and keeping Shew on the roster. We know Arcia is basic replacement player if even that at this point.

Jordan Luplow and Eli White both have an option year remaining. Eli is making a case over Luplow

I would not be fine with that at all. Arcia has proved to be valuable the past 2 seasons and Shew has a full set of options remaining. If Shew can prove to be competent depth at short great. We don't have anyone else.

yeah, if he bounces back like I am predicting, then this is a brutal lineup to go through.. I am just not 100% buying this stretch of good hitting.

I think we are going to miss Dans if Griss is our fulltime SS.. That hit by Hoskin was a grounder 15 feet to the left of Griss and he looked like he was stuck in cement then dove over the ball..

If we could find an actual solid glove (Shewmake) I'd be interested in Grissom being our Chris Taylor type player and keep everyone fresh.

Is shewmake considered a plus defender?

Griss won’t be horrible - he won’t be andrelton either.
Swanson didn’t look all that good his first year….

I guess I knew we always had to worry about arm and foot work with Griss.. but now I am concerned about range too. I honestly don't know if he won't be horrible defensively at SS. maybe the bat washes it out..

I couldn’t believe how much they were hyping Shewmake yesterday on radio, even flat out saying he has put himself in the shortstop battle. They were so definitive about it that it almost sounded like they knew something that we don’t.

I still just don’t think it’s true though. But yeah, the Hoskins ground ball in the first inning today wasn’t a great look for Grissom.

I can't imagine the radio guys know anything more than the honey baked ham rumors.. I don't think I have seen Shew on defense yet.. so I don't know how he rates. CJ, what is your minor league expertise on him.

I think Elder might carve out a nice career bouncing around from team to team as a 5th starter/long reliever role. His stuff is just good enough to keep him in the league, but not quite good enough to make him super valuable to one team. Nibbles and gets guys to hit his pitch, but if he gets behind, it usually means trouble.
