Playing DH might as well be a day off
Ivermectin Man
I disagree.. a day off is a day off. Not having to run the bases, prep for a pitcher, foul a ball off your foot is a big difference than just sitting and watching a game.
I liken it to me taking a full day off and me taking a personal day but monitoring my email by phone. It is not the same.

As I recall Shewmake was an odd case. He was drafted as a guy who people thought was unlikely to stay at SS, had a great hit tool but had questions about power.
Then he came into pro ball and tweaked swing to get to more power. Then he never hit.
While he was not hitting, he started to prove to be a good SS.
So now the consensus seems to be he can play SS but he can't hit. Literally the opposite of his pre-draft profile. Also coming off a major injury now.
I could see Shewmake becoming the replacement for Arcia as a low cost back up SS. He'd have to show a lot more at the plate to think of him as a regular anywhere.
The power projection was always wrong imho. In college his sophomore year (I think..may be freshman)he hit 11 hrs. His highest total after was 6. He was known to be a gap to gap hitter in college. In Rome, he was what he was. Line drive... line to line. The overrated loft in a swing thing screwed him up for sure. AA is where the wheels fell off. Hit more HR'S than ever...but yuck..putrid everywhere.
In Rome..he did fit the profile for which he was drafted, albeit the look of a valuable utility guy.
He's also never made more than 10 errors in a season.. I'd take that if his bat were Rome Braves worthy. I don't think so though. Unless he's ditched trying to be Babe Shewmake.
I think a lot of the thought that he wouldn't stick at SS was due to the desire for him to bulk up to add some power. The kid is tall (6-4) so there was a reasonable belief that if he bulked up he'd lose some speed and agility and look like a better fit at 3B or the OF. But Shewmake hasn't really bulked up much. He still super thin and so has maintained his defense better than expected. However, he also hasn't really added the power while maintaining the hit tool that was hoped for.
My best case scenario for Shewmake was as a true super-utility player. A Chris Taylor or a Martin Prado. A guy who travels with half a dozen gloves and gets 400 PAs. I still want to see him learn as many positions as he can. Even if he breaks out at the plate and can stick at SS, I still think he'd be well served to be able to play anywhere.
Strider still doesn't look right to me. He has been 95-97 the last 2 starts. I know it is spring, but usually guys don't drop that much in their tunes for the regular season.

Easy fellas … Matt is working on some mechanics
Eli white leading off today vs lhp. Luplow in lineup too. Big day for those 2 imo
Arcia at ss today. Grissom was there Tuesday, so I expected him today. Probably means nothing...
It will be Arcia with shew in AAA to get regular ABs.
