    Spring Training Thread

Dylan Dodd starting. Chip and Ben Ingram talking very highly of Braden Shewmake and even said he has interested himself into the SS battle. Not sure I buy that, but he’s playing short and leading off today. Just made a great play in the six hole in the first inning.

Here’s video of the Shewmake play: https://twitter.com/gvedak/status/16...FYkGV6nUElb0dA. Plenty of arm there.

Dodd gave up a bloop double to start the first inning, then got that ground ball to Shewmake, a strike out and a ridiculous play by Olson at first on a weak ground ball. I’m sure there will be video on Twitter soon.

I think Dodd and Shuster have made a name for themselves.. more just back end pieces.. but it puts pressure on Allard and Ian to step up. Has Allard pitched recentl? He had that good start about a week or so ago...

Been seeing a lot of Shewmake lately and he has been pretty good. May be something to it… or maybe sending a message to Grissom that he needs to step it up.

Allard has an oblique strain, starting the year on the IL.

might be considering a platoon at SS.. Griss and Shew might be ok as fix for that position.

Dodd struck out the side in the second inning. Fastball up gets the first strikeout here: https://twitter.com/gvedak/status/16...FYkGV6nUElb0dA

Changeup down for strikeout number two: https://twitter.com/gvedak/status/16...FYkGV6nUElb0dA

Fastball thrown right by the hitter for the third strikeout: https://twitter.com/gvedak/status/1635330456332959745?s=46&t=t7xpFDjlFYkGV6nUElb0dA

The booth called it a FA for strike 3 on the last hitter, but to me, that looked like a change.. hopefully that is on twitter, cause I thought he was way out in front on that pitch.

Dodd gives up a leadoff single in a ground ball just hit in the right place, erases it as the next batter hits into a double play. Heck of a play by Riley to field a weird hop and start it. Weak pop up ends the inning.

    Dodd so far: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K.

I wish there was a gun on Dodd today. my bad.. glove side drop. could just be shape of his slider then. I am half paying attention.. but that pitch has some horizontal move with drop.

Weak pop up and weak ground ball to start the fourth inning for Dodd. Showers flies out to the LF warning track for the third out.

That’s twice a veteran has failed to get a run in from 3rd with less than two outs.

Should be able to do that.

I absolutely hate spring training. you feel good about what is going on, then you go on a meeting talking about SVB and how might impact my bank and the Braves are now losing. I know it is Jackson Steveson who is a fringe BP guy.. but still, I hate we just keep blowing big leads with the greatest of ease.

Haven’t seen the regular RP’s in a lot of these games. I suspect that will be better in games that count.

    How about Shewmake?

Shewmake looks pretty ****ing good so far.

Neither are elite or likely even a really good SP but I think Shuster and Dodd would both be more than capable of filling out the No. 5 spot.
