I don’t know how they do it. But I’m glad they do whatever it is they do - as someone else posted, kinda cool to see three of our draft picks from 2020 doing well in our current starting rotation …

We'll see. The difference is last year we had the comp pick in the 30s that we got from the Royals.

If I'm not mistaken the Braves have 4 picks in the top 100. I don't know what the money looks like but it'll be interesting to see how they chop it up. Dana Brown did a great job of maximizing the money allotment.

A lot will depend on the total pool money, but two years ago the Pirates drafted Bubba Chandler at #72 and had to go way over slot to do that. I doubt the Braves will have the flexibility in their pool amount to shoot that high without having to really lowball the first two picks. But there will likely be a kid who is considered a challenge to sign due to a college commitment available at #70. Depends on how big a pile of money they can throw at that slot.

That's what makes Cy's mom such a valuable prospect: her slot is available totally free of charge.

    24. Atlanta Braves: RHP Charlee Soto, Reborn Christian Academy (FL)

A growth spurt and a strong performance on the showcase circuit made Soto one of the breakout prep prospects of last summer. He has a ton of remaining projection in his 6'5", 210-pound frame, already touches 98 mph with his fastball and is one of the youngest players in the class with his 18th birthday not coming until Aug. 31. There is some effort in his delivery, but his stock is on the rise.

We're about a month out from the draft. Baseball America had a new mock today with us taking George Lombard Jr. at 26. Their draft guy also said he's heard us connected to a lot of high school hitters recently.

I hear their local mailman was quite the athlete in his day though.

The other day it was McGonigle. I don't know which guy is the right one and a team always has to draft pitchers, but our minor leagues are just bereft of bats right now.

    From Callis last night

    24. Braves: Blake Mitchell, C, Sinton (Texas) HS (No. 13)
If the bias against high school catchers does contribute to Mitchell getting to No. 24, it will be an absolute steal for the Braves. His bat might make him a first-rounder even if he weren't a catcher, and while he's drawing interest in the top 10, he goes behind several college bats in this scenario. Atlanta also likes several prep shortstops (Emerson, McGonigle, Walker Martin, George Lombard Jr., Sammy Stafura) and Eldridge.

McGonicle sounds like a made up name.

Law's second mock has us taking College 3B from WF Brock Wilken.

Put up a .357/.516/.835 last year with 15 2b and 31 Hrs in 64 games.

Hoping we take a position player early, maybe even two (doubtful on that given the track record). There's like nothing close in the system with position players, being ready.

I hope we take a position player too - but after whats going on with our pitching, they will probably draft there again. And again. And again.
