Phillies are gonna be bad for a long time. They might as well trade Harper while he still has value. Hope they enjoyed their WS appearance cause their team is both old and expensive.

For real.
I mean, say what you want about the Mets, but at least they are producing a lot of talent from the minors. Sure they tend to trade them all off for aging/expensive stars, but they are still producing that talent at a fairly high rate. The Phillies aren't even doing that really, aside from Sixto and their first round picks, who have yet to do anything at the ML level.

5-6 against the toughest 11 straight games I can remember, all against teams significantly over .500 and hot. The hits keep on rolling against the Mariners and Dodgers. Who drew up this schedule?
Shewmake optioned back to Gwinnett, no word yet on who is coming back up but it sounds like Adrianza would be activated.
Get off my lawn!
Would be nice to see us upgrade the utility inf position at the deadline. Adrianza aint it. Matt Duffy would be really, really nice, though I don't know enough his glovework at SS. But hell, if we want a glove first SS that can't hit, why not bring Simba back in?

My god that Statcast page.
Joey Wendle is off to a terrible start in Miami and I don't think he's truly a starting SS (which he is in Miami), but he's got a pretty good track record over the years. I agree they should find a legitimate multi-position guy who hits better than both Adrianza and Shemake and fields better than Grissom.

A was on local radio today. Main takeaways:
-They're not gonna "yo-yo" Soroka. Once he's up it's because they believe he will stay up. Said the main thing is that Soroka has basically become a whole new pitcher. He's not a sinker guy anymore, but a straight 4 seam fastball pitcher. Changed his mechanics entirely for hopeful longevity. So he is essentially learning to pitch again.
-The way AA talked about Smith-Shawver, it's clear they see him as a possible option this season. He basically said they don't like pushing those guys through levels, but the need is there and he might be able to fill it. Said now they can evaluate Dodd/Shuster/Soroka/Shawver all in one place.
-AA said point blank they don't evaluate these guys on ERA. The Braves care about BB/K rates. We want our pitchers missing bats. We are not a pitch to contact club anymore. Miss bats.

Isn’t elder/Shuster/Dodd all contact type pitchers though. Elder has been successful at that.
