    Morton out for NLDS

MRI revealed inflammation in his finger. He has been ruled out of the NLDS

It’s not ideal but it’s also not the end of the world if Max is good to go. If he’s not, this is absolutely devastating.

Yeah this is definitely a big deal. Getting past the NLDS is never a given so who knows. I like Charlie but I’d put my 20 million a year into a younger pitcher next year.

So we run a 3 man rotation with

    Strider
    Fried
    Elder

    Then for the pen

    Iglesias
    Minter
    Chavez
    Hand
    Johnson
    Jimenez
    Yates
    Stephens
    Tonkin

It hurts for sure cause Elder isn’t to be trusted to give up less then 4 but the NLCS would be a much bigger blow.
We really need him along with Strider and Max.
I honestly wouldn’t be shocked to see a BP type game with Wright doing the bulk work in the NLCS if we make it that far.
Really pulling for the Cubs/Dbacks to beat the Phillies as imo the Phillies are the 2nd best team behind us and our biggest threat due to the ability to hurt us in the bottom of the order compared to the rest of the field

Remember when we talked about the Braves needing a SP at the deadline to protect against something exactly like this? Now all we can do is hope someone can find the magic pixie dust they sprinkled on Elder in the first half. Then we hope Morton actually comes back for the NLCS so someone like Shuster doesn’t start.

Remember when no quality pitcher was available at the deadline that we could afford? Not sure why you keep harping on this.

GioLeeToe was my hope. I do wonder if going to a place like Atl versus a dumb org like Angels would have produced different results. How is he doing in Toronto

Wait. Or was it Cleveland??? Now I have to go look

Yep. Up and down. But I think I would trust him versus Elder personally. But we will see

I don't really get this. Why not keep him as an option?

I feel like to use him you'd have to be sure he'd be a difference maker. It's a lot of control to give up.

It does not make sense to rush Waldrep with his obvious control issues at AA and AAA. His stuff is nasty but if he’s having control problems at those levels, they are just gonna be worse at the MLB level. He’s also pitched more this year than he ever has in his career given the college work and minor league work. Why risk the development of your young stud when he’s not likely to be an impact player? It’s not just the walks, he’s also hitting batters and throwing wild pitches. He’s gonna be very good but this is not the time.

The Braves wanted him to get one more outing which is why he went to Gwinnett the other day. Mississippi had already ended their season.

I'm good with him being shut down. Wouldn't mind him being put on the travel squad for the playoffs to get him acclimated to the team and the environment.

In his last start, Waldrep was 94-97 with 2166-2298 rpm on the FA. The average FA spin for the Braves at the MLB level is 2293 for reference.

I don't see a single pitch from him on that day with 2300+ rpm. The average spin for the Braves at the MLB level on all breaking balls is 2526.

Based on this limited data, I'm not sure Waldrep's stuff is all that exciting. Unless the SL data is bad, it doesn't appear he can spin the ball.
