Anyway, here's Monday's result. A 7-6 win for Salt River over Scottsdale.

😂😂. As for McCabe, I don't know that he's going to be much but if you Squint hard enough, there are tools. The eye test isn't too bad either. The rest as 50 and others have eloquently put it...Meh

Salt River wins 5-1 in Vines' debut.

Big news for Braves' fans following the league was the debut of Darius Vines. It really makes sense for both Vines and the Braves to have him pitching in the AFL. He pitched a total of 49.1 innings at three minor league stops as he was working through some injury issues followed by 20.1 innings for the Braves at the major league level. He's never been viewed as a big raw stuff guy, but he's established himself as a back-end of the rotation candidate by improving as he's moved up in the system.

    Ogans (SS) 0/3, 1 BB, 1 K
    Tolve (C) 0/3, 1 R, 1 BB

    Vines W (1-0) 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 75P/54S
    Halligan 1.1 IP, 1 H, 13P/11S

    You're welcome. It's my homage to rico43.

Not a lot to look at in the AFL. I think Vines and Dodd are simply there for innings, so performance is secondary (though not ignored). Wilson is working his way back. McSteen and Halligan are head-scratchers to me.

I think Ogans has helped himself. Braves have drafted a lot of college MIFs (Waddell, Conley, Exposito, Ogans, and the since-traded Durbin). Add Quintero to the mix as well. They are probably trying to develop a utility guy. Ogans hasn't ripped things up, but he has built on a decent High-A season. Neither McCabe and Tolve has done that much. Like some of the pitchers, I think Tolve is making up for some lost time in 2023 due to injury.

I'll be honest, other than a few of our higher profile prospects, this year was tough to watch. Middling is what I'd call 70% of the guys I watched this year. Of course I knew going in, it was going to be a "down" year for the system although there are always standouts. To me, McCabe is mildly interesting.

Where I need some clarity is this....I thought the Braves usually sent a group of higher potential prospects to the AFL. Metrics may show that this group has higher potential than I'm aware of but they all seem lower tier to me. Maybe they needed work?
