    reopening schools/reducing the deficit

Many of us have decried the damage done by school shutdowns to the educational attainment of our children. How many of us strenuously advocated for measures to allow schools to reopen quickly and safely (for teachers as well as students). Or were there ideological lines we were not willing to cross cuz those ideological beliefs were more important than opening schools quickly and safely.

Many of us decry the large federal defcits. But want to take half of the possible solution of the table. Cuz maybe reducing the deficit is not that high a priority. Certainly not as high as ideological beliefs about the role and size of government.

Desperate for attention today, I see.

This is very simple. We can ask our government to act ethically at all times.

It was unethical to deny children an education over a virus that impacted zero of them. It was also unethical to to lie about the science and censor thr truth to justify it. Those children will never get that time back

When it comes to finances, it's unethical to spend money we don't have. It's unethical to print money to finance spending. If the government wants to pass legislation to massively raise taxes, then can certainly do that and live with the political consequences. Instead, all they do is print and finance, which is bankrupting a generation who isn't even born yet.

Shouldn't be hard to ask our government to act ethically

Well econometrics is a hard class. So far the high is a 90 and the low a 52. Median is low 70s. I'm not gonna be very popular after this one.

Sounds like the school either is accepting kids that don't deserve it or the instruction is not reaching the students.

Eh...we gotta pay the bills like everyone else. We did cut the size of the freshman class in spite of record applications. I've already noticed this year's freshmen are better prepared as a group than last year's. But the econometrics class is a 400 level class. Mostly juniors.

I actually took a class with Krugman in graduate school. He was a quirky but effective teacher.

When it was his turn to become department chairman they passed him over because everyone knew he was hopeless as an administrator.

I'm guessing we could draw a nice line of correlation with college admissions and exploding deficits

Go to college and live longer. That's our new pitch.

Although I've pointed out to my econometrics class that there is an unobserved variable doing a lot of work in this situation.
