Win tomorrow or this season is a failure

    40-70
    Hr record
    Strider strike out record
    100+ wins
    East division championship runs
    Olson HR record

None of that means a damn thing if they flop out again just like last year. If they lose, choke artists that can't be taken seriously
    Swanson sucks

Haven’t won an elimination game since 2004. Haven’t won an elimination game at home since 1996. A lot of randomness/bad luck, but also a lot of choking,

Everything that could go wrong this series has gone wrong so far.

Fried not pitching for over 2 weeks
Messing with the lineup in game 1
The poor decision to start elder tonight and the lack of preparedness to have the bullpen up and ready….

It is what it is. I don’t see this series coming back to Atlanta.

I don't like this thinking. We are the best team in the majors this year and nothing in the playoffs can change that. The playoffs are not about who is the best team. We would win more championships as a fringe playoff contender with a top heavy roster. If the playoffs were just a tournament with all 30 teams there would be years where sub .500 teams win it all. Assuming it was a seeded tournament I bet last place teams win vs the best team at least 1 out of 5 times. Facts of life. I would rather be an annual contender than a fringe playoff team like the Phillies who do well in the playoffs. The Phillies can win this series and even win the world series but they can never claim to be the best team in their own division. Best playoff team in their own division? Sure.

We won it all in 2001 when our roster had to be reconstructed with replacement spare parts.

Snitker was using bullpen piggybacking during the regular season effectively, and even in the playoffs.

Figures when we have one of the most talented teams of all time, Snitker's real lack of managing comes into play, and we lay an egg.

My discontent for twitner is at an all time high. Elder facing the lineup more than once? Tonkin pitching ever? I mean they played 3 games and some of our best pitchers have only pitched once. Our best catcher has only played one game. My daughter thinks I am insane while I yelled at the radio when Elder pitched to Kyle. Great he was rolling. But he sucks. Everyone knows that. Twitner is by far the worst manager in the game.

There's 30 teams and at least 25 fanbases think their team is being held back by their manager.

Starting Elder wasn't a poor decision. He breezed through 6 batters. But not having someone ready to come in the very second he got into trouble was inexcusable. Snit managed this game like it was a game in mid-July. Extremely poor managing.

I started following the Braves in '98, but didn't really become a fan until 2000. Great timing, yeah.
So for over 20 years, I knew nothing but postseason failure. And probably around 2004, I stopped believing in pure randomness and bad luck. Those of you around for the full ride will remember that the Braves' LDS losses have all followed more or less the same script: Lose game 1 while being outplayed. Scratch out a win in game 2, followed by a often resounding loss in game 3, killing any momentum and putting their backs against the wall. This was followed either by a hard-fought victory in game 4, or direct elimination. Of course, they'd always lose game 5. Always at home. Save for 2005 and 2013, the Braves always got eliminated at home. They always lost game 1. The only times they were ahead in the series was 2002 against SF, and 2019 against STL. It was always a struggle, always an uphill battle. Whether it was the Cubs in 2003 or Dodgers in 2013. Nothing ever came easy. But there was always some external factor you could point to to explain away the failure. A bad call. An unfortunate bounce. An injury. It all distracted from the fact that none of those teams extended their regular season play to the postseason. Or even elevated it.
So far, this is the exact same script we see playing out right now. Which is why I'm highly sceptical that the Braves can pull off a game 5 win, even if they get there.

And that has nothing to do with personnel. I do believe that there are such things as winning mentality and winning culture for a team or an entire city. Those places expect to not only do well, but to win championships. They set out that expectation, and exude that confidence. I don't know what it's made of, or how it can be created, but it's there. And Atlanta doesn't have it. That doesn't mean they'll never win, but it's more of a "moment in the sun" type victory.

Will be shocked if they dont do something next year about the playoff format. They are about to have 3 of the 4 #1 seeds knocked out.

Ya its crazy, I am not sure how to fix it really but you cannot have a team sit for 5-7 days. The braves were even worse because of the time between the games also they cant get into a rhythm hitting.

Maybe the #1 seeds should have all 5 games at home? Or maybe make the playoffs 8 teams and all teams play a 5 game series first round with the top 4 seeds getting 4 home games, 2 home, 1 away, 2 home.

I am not sure but this has to be fixed.

Just do a 30 team playoff. Everyone makes the playoffs. Top seed in each division gets a bye in the first round. Or maybe they can have exhibition games against each other so they dont sit for too long. The regular season already couldnt mean less than it does now since its a marathon race to qualify for a 100 meter dash tournament.

The bottom line is if the Braves are really a championship-caliber team, they should find a way to win the next two games. No more excuses.

I can't call the whole season a failure if we don't win. The Mets' and Padres' seasons were total failures. This is just a ****ty ending.

I would say if you insist on keeping this many teams. Make the wild card round a double header on Tues. Wednesday game 3 if necessary. Division series starts Thursday. You could alternate each year which league gets Friday off for TV purposes.

That gives the best teams 3 days off and and exhausted wild card team to face in game one.

WC Game 1 Tuesday: If lower-seeded team wins, they play Game 2 Wednesday. If higher-seeded team wins Tuesday, they advance and no Game 2.
LDS Game 1 Thursday: All 5 games at higher seed. No days off until between Games 3-4. This means Sunday would be a league-wide day off since we can't have baseball going up against NFL in the TV game.
