Heading into the off-season, when predictions for Yamamoto were in the 8/$190m to 9/$225m range, it seemed like he could represent the rare “FA Ace” that presents good value. Apparently that was a collective mis-reading of his market, however, if these 10+ year, $300+m rumblings are to be believed—thresholds which place him firmly in the “you’re probably overpaying, no matter how good he is in the first half” echelon.

Teams like the Dodgers and Yankees almost have to sign him to justify their previous moves. While that could lead to a massive overpay, I bet some of these numbers being reported include the posting fee and that nuance is being glossed over.

Morton didnt pitch because of a freak finger injury at the wrong time. Most teams wish they had our top 3. If we are patient we may not need multiple starters next year. Fried wants to hit FA but that doesnt necessarily mean he is gone. He has enough warts to not get a ridiculous contract offer unless he has a crazy good year. We have 2 promising SP prospects at AAA and AA. One or both could develop into just as good of starter as we might have traded for or signed. Sure thats risky but the upside of having good and cheap pitching is worth it. If simply just AJSS turns into a mid rotation SP this season we could really afford to sign Fried and Soto next year and still be under the luxury cap. Trading our prospects for proven SP who we then have to pay close to FA money isnt a recipe for long term success.

Morton just turned 40 last month. Next year will be his Age 40 season.

Luckily for him and us, he was a late bloomer that didn't have a lot of mileage on him early. That's why for pitchers over 35 I think he still ranks in the highest avg velocity.

Regardless of how it is done, it is still spending. If you want to say he doesn't sign retarded free agents to retarded contracts, you would be correct. But the Braves do spend money and to act like they don't is just stupid.

Braves have spent a lot of money and are projected to win 97 games right now. That's an absurd amount to be projected for. I think some may have forgotten just how stacked this team is without making any splashy moves. Next offseason is when they will really need to make some FA signings or big trades. We will have a big need at DH and likely 2 SP spots.

Foolish take. Braves have the most talent of any team in baseball right now.

AA will need to acquire another front end starter before 2025 starts. I don't think anyone is debating that. But that time hasn't come yet.

Both? Don't know what to tell you. But having a historically great offense and two of the top 5 starters in the league should lead to post season success. You act like there is a proven plan to win in the playoffs. There isn't.

What the Braves do each year is exactly the opposite of playing the lottery.

They have the best overall roster in baseball, with most key players signed to team-friendly conrtracts.

The biggest lottery ticket philosophy in the game, outside of maybe paying big for an international player or a minor leaguer, is going after 30+ year old free agents on long-term high price deals and expecting them to defy science in the post-steroid era.
