Good point. I seem (and at my age I "seem" to remember a lot of things that just weren't so), but I think there were a couple of instances when Anthopoulos got backed into a corner a bit and had to make adjustments to avoid getting left holding the bag. I'm too lazy to look up the salary implications on Lopez (and I think the staff has a well-developed plan for his use) and I do wonder if holding on for a bit to see how the Snell/Montgomery negotiations would unfold and assess the possibility for a pillow deal for either of them would have worked. It's all risk/reward and when the offensive core of the team is so strong, I can see mitigating risk on the pitching side of the equation.

I doubt AA is going over the next tax threshold. I think we are like 7ish million below it. And we will most certainly be active around the trade deadline, so the 7 million will be important to fitting players under the tax.

Sportrac has the braves at 263.5. The over 40 is 277. So that should be 13ish mill to play with.

Does the 10 drop in draft kick in after 40 or over 60.

FG appears to be much more accurate than any other site at estimating CBT numbers. They have the Braves at $270M.

MLBTR just broke down the most appealing RHH OFers. It's written about the DBacks, but the Braves have the same need:

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/...l-grichuk.html

The options they cover are Pham, Duvall and Grichuk. They do a good job explaining why Grichuk has been my #1 preference for the 4th OFer spot on this roster.

.267/.315/.507 career hitter vs LHP, capable of faking it in CF for short stints, and shouldn't be too expensive because he's no longer an everyday player. Basically a younger version of Pillar who can play 1 game a week in LF/CF/RF with Acuna taking 1-2 games at DH per month, and also serves as a potential weakside platoon-mate for Kelenic and Harris just in case.

Of course, Snit could never competently use a bench option in such a manner, but a guy can dream.

MLB just suspended Billy Eppler for using fake injuries for the IL for the Mets. He's suspended for the entire 24 season.

I'm sure many of us here have assumed AA was rosterbating with ghost "IL" stints.

Braves signed RHP Parker Dunshee to a minor league contract.
Dunshee has yet to reach the majors and represents additional organizational pitching depth for the Braves entering the 2024 season. The 28-year-old righty spent last year in the Giants’ minor-league system after spending the previous six years with the Athletics.

Football season is over. College baseball starts Friday, and the braves start ST a week from Saturday. Baseball is up.

Keith Law rates Braves' farm system as 26th out of 30. Mentions Waldrep and Ritchie as solid prospects, but also says that most of the pitching prospects have high reliever risk. He rates Alvarez as the only position prospect who looks like he could develop into an everyday player.

I don't know how deep Law goes into the system, but there is no mention of the high-bonus international signings of the past few years. I would think some of those guys could develop although it's always difficult to gauge prospects' chances until they hit AA.

The system was equally terrible a few years ago, and then it magically produced Harris and Strider.

The Braves are at the absolute peak of their contention window, and if you squint you can see the window closing down the road. So enjoy the next few years and hope like hell Kelenic pans out and the system keeps producing 1-2 guys a year despite the poor overall state of the farm.

I had an interesting phone conversation with Keith Law a few years ago. He hit me up on LinkedIn to complain about a former employee of mine that was blowing up his twitter. It turned out the former employee never updated his LinkedIn page. When he first messaged me I asked him to call me and he did. Once I explained the situation he was fine, but I couldn’t let him of the phone without discussing Andruw and his HoF chances. We got into a pretty good debate and it turned into a really good conversation about the Braves. Prolly for a good 20 minutes. I thought I made some good arguments about Andruw and he certainly conceded some points, but still didn’t think Andruw was quite there.

Would you folks be interested in him doing a Q/A on this forum? Maybe toward the end of spring training once we get a look at some of the young guys? Let me know me I’ll see what I can do to arrange it if the interest is there from you guys.

I have zero doubt that he’s far off BUT Law has probably missed his mark on Braves prospects as much or more than anyone else in the prospect sphere

That'd be awesome. I just hope Sav doesn't use it as an excuse to up the Premium Membership fees even more.
