I'm annoyed I let people here convince me my initial take on Shewmake was wrong. It was clear that any team that drafted Shewmake would want him to add muscle. Dude had the physique of a famine victim when he was drafted and a lot was said about conditioning programs in an MLB system. Without bulking up he had a limited ceiling as a hitter.

At that point I said he was a player without a position. If he added bulk he wouldn't stick at SS defensively but still would never hit enough to play at more premium offensive positions. However, if he stayed slim and agile enough to play SS then he'd never hit enough to start in a major league lineup. Turns out he took the latter route. He never added any significant muscle, has remained a decent defensive SS, but can't hit a lick.

Never from me sir. I said from rookie ball on when watching him. Honestly I thought his best ever trajectory was Ryan Langerhans, but Ryan had more power. Lazy comparison but I didn't like that pick at all. Most didn't. At the end of the day, nothing lost except premium draft position.

I think the problem with the scouts in this instance is that you likely don't get a lot of physical growth after age 21, which they apparently they thought would happen. It's different when a team drafts an 18-year-old. Maybe they were depending on Shewmake adopting a different approach at the plate and trying to increase launch angle, but it became pretty obvious that he was going to be a gap hitter at best and his ceiling was probably a mid-.700 OPS guy. Interesting how the Braves where the Braves have hit with their drafts. Big winners with Strider and Harris and we'll have to see on Grissom, but a lot of the other top guys are playing elsewhere.

Especially just for cash. They must’ve been really down on the prospects of Anderson being useful in 2024, given his low (~$1.6m) price-tag. And, presumably, they believe they have better uses for the roster spot.

The Anderson trade is weird. He was good when healthy and the price wasn’t huge. This clears another roster spot

Is that 4 open spots on the 40 man now? Not sure if he is clearing to go crazy or if it was just time to shed the excess roster fat.

I really hope the Braves go after Yamamoto.
Nola would be next in line for me as I just don’t see the Braves dealing for Burnes due to his agent.

Your initial take was wrong because you said he didn’t have a defensive home, implying he wasn’t a very good defender. He’s in actuality a really good defender.

That’s who I’m hoping for to. I wonder how high the bidding will go.
