There was still a chance that Albies would not make it when AA guaranteed him $25mil. I agree, Albies should have been advised to not sign, but he seems sharp and knew what he was signing.

Albies has said he knew what that money would mean for his family and that he doesn't regret the decision.

Trying to think of a way to commemorate this signing with something lasting, but I'm struggling coming up with ideas

This move is the Braves banking on the hope that his 1.9 BB/9 over the last 2 months is more real than his career mark of 4.36. I suppose time will tell, but a sudden improvement in control is what the value of this contract hinges on.

Well the good thing is that at that price he doesn’t have to be elite. Just slightly above average. If his control is real then it is a steal.

Braves have bet on stasistical/measurement upticks both in the draft and free agent market. Sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't. As you say, it's a wait-and-see thing.

He knew there would be at least one more chance at a big one. He will make up for it on the next one that will either make him a lifetime Brave or not.

I think the Coors Field is effect might have played a role in this one as well.

The fact that they plucked him form the Rockies, one of the worst organizations, and immediately corrected him and made him nearly elite gives me hope.
