The prospect page has a link to video of Yama pitching. No movement data, but the eye test looks like a mid-90s FA with good rise, a plus downer curve, and a split that look nasty.

He’s officially the guy I want to see AA sign.

I agree with both of yall. Next year is the year to really splurge on one. Morton and Fried off the books, hopefully one of the young kids can be ready by then. I think a 2-3 year deal for one would be ideal but who can you get to take that?

I dont know if i can see AA give Yama that kinda deal but if there is someone to go that high of an offer...

I know it probably won’t happen but the Ohtani stuff is really interesting. After being with the Angels and not being competitive at all he wants to win. Atlanta is set up better than anybody to win. If he doesn’t have to set a record contract I wonder if there is common ground there. He was supposedly a good SS in Japan so if he can’t pitch anymore he could be your SS after next year possibly. He would pay for himself bc the Asian market goes nuts wherever he is.

He's basically a DH imo. He's already had two TJ's. He's a crazy good hitter but not sure it's worth the long-term investment.

If that’s all he’s gonna be able to do going forward then I agree. There’s better value elsewhere.

Yeah - im not real sure Ohtani can even play LF meaningfully after TJ2…. He might not be able to throw the damn ball any better than Marcel.

Sarcastic. Even if Ohtani wanted to play here I wouldn’t give him the money it would take. Teams that give out that kind of money it never works out.

Unfortunately, outside of Ohtani, I don’t see an FA for whom it seems worth it to trade two picks (and the associated bonus $) plus another $1m in international cash. Next year is a different story—and I really don’t think the Braves want to pay those QO CBT-payer penalties two seasons in a row.
For this reason, I think E-Rod, Stroman, and Montgomery will be the main targets in FA. Yamamoto is the dream of course.

There would be an opportunity here.... for the Atlanta Braves to jump into the stratosphere of NYY, LAD territory. International merch, broadcasting (as we happen to find ourselves in need of a new broadcasting deal), etc... would explode. Ohtani and Yamamato might do the trick to a lesser degree. We won't have regional rivals that have any real advantages. There aren't many fanbases that cover this many eyeballs as far as reach. GA, SC, NC, TN, AL, north FL, Miss,

They have the physical park down to a T and have large appeal in the hispanic and Caribbean areas. Opening this area up internationally would be a big step to putting us up there with NYY and LA.

Not for nothing, but a ton of auto manufacturers are investing in GA. The Porsche North American HQ brings in a lot of people internationally as well.

While hard for any of us to quantify, I agree there could be some value to breaking into the major Asian markets with a star like Yamamoto. Being in the south is part of why Ohtani wasn’t an option, and the way to change that is to get that first Asian star in the front door.

The type of contract he is going to want will destroy a franchise budget wise if it doesnt work out. Only teams like the yankees and dodgers can afford to pay a guy like him 10 years 480 million knowing best case the first 7 years are good and the last 3 years will be a write off.

The biggest problem with Ohtani right now is his arm. He’s already on his 2nd surgery at 30 years old. So somebody is gonna have to decide what player are they gonna actually get and nobody knows. You can’t give him 40+ if he’s just gonna hit.

I wish he had got though the season before blowing out his arm so it would have sabotaged whatever team was dumb enough to sign him for 50+ million.

Ohtani was only going to one team when he first came over
