Odd move. Obvious upside with Bummer but seems to be paying market price or above

That clears up some room on the 40 man. Money is likely flush with what Soroka was going to make in arbitration. Lopez was a non tender candidate the whole time so I never really factored in his salary for next year.

Soroka and Lopez were no tender candidate. Lopez was a good bench piece that was a bit expensive. Shuster is a AAAA arm. No idea who the other guy is.

Bummer is a lottery ticket who could be an impact BP arm.

It looks like AA took all the guys the Braves were going to dump and turned them into someone that may help. Odd trade if that’s not the case.

Seems Soroka was more of a non tender candidate than I thought. Bummer has a couple of club options after 2024 if he rebounds. If not then no big deal.

The Braves have essentially zero SS depth now. Makes me think Adames is coming soon.

Hopefully but I don’t want Arcia at all.

I liked Lopez for his elite defense, and thought that made him worth the projected arb salary, even with a non-existent bat.

MIF is awfully thin now, as Enscheff points out—though I guess technically Grissom is still an infielder.

Hate this simply because Lopez was probably worth his salary and might be the better player between him and Arcia.

    Bummer indeed.

I hate losing Lopez, but Bummer’s got some damn good stuff with a loaded Savant page: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savan...r-pitching-mlb

This has Pierce Johnson written all over it.

They clearly lost all confidence in Shuster. He was a first round pick not too long ago and it feels like they just added him to this trade as a throw in.

Nicky Lopez is the loss for me here as well. I felt like the guy had a chance to put together a pretty good year for us next year and would at the very least get Arcia off the field.

I sincerely hope we have a plan to get a legitimate starter at SS an relegate Arcia to the bench.

    I would take a Soto/Kim trade.

Certainly feels like AA just cleared 40 man roster space. More moves are coming clearly. 5 for 1 trade seems crazy, although none of them are worth losing sleep over. If Bummer rebounds, he has team friendly club options at 7ish mil the next 2 years. The most interesting thing about this deal is we basically traded all our SS depth, so AA has to have a SS move up his sleeve. We did clear a little bit of payroll with Lopez, and Soroka who were set to make about 6-7 mil between them.

I'm also on board with potentially going into the season with four lefties, as many options as possible. Though I'm sure this makes Lee or even Minter expendable in the right trade.

4 lefties is a little much for one bullpen. Some teams barely carry more than 1.

Bummer has a strong arm and can be a difference maker with his strikeout rate. His era was up last year but I think that will come back down. Like everybody else I hated to lose Lopez but clearly AA has an upgrade coming at SS. Sucks Arcia probably becomes the utility guy after being an all star last year.

This has vibes of a trade between 2 teams on different sides of the spectrum.

Braves needed roster slots, and get a rock solid BP arm they need. White Sox get a ton of spare parts that could amount to nothing or could play well and be trade candidates. White Sox need more talent, Braves need more impact players.

I wouldnt totally say the bottom is true. Could always just sign a cheap veteran to fill the backup IF slot. Or maybe Grissom is that. We cleared 3 spots, and we really just need a LF'er, one SP, and maybe another SP/BP piece. or i guess we could go after a SS.
