I think it’s a finite resource allocation methodology.

A good bench piece can be had at the deadline for cheap and the team is going to coast to 105+ wins. Better to shore up the bullpen all year since it’s such a crapshoot.

Good bench pieces can be had now for pretty cheap. Why wait till end of July. If the Braves can’t afford 2-4 mill then AA screwed up somewhere.

Maybe they want to see what they have on the roster now?

Maybe they want to see if much better player than grichuk is available for cheap at the deadline?

All I know is that a bullpen is much more important than a 4th outfielder on a super young squad.

These dudes rebuilt this team into one of the best -and most sustainable for several years- teams literally in the history of baseball. I’m pretty sure they know what they are doing with regards to bench construction and etc- and I choose to believe that they have backup plans for their backup plans.

I also choose to believe that if they thought Brian Snitker’s way of doing things was more of a problem than a benefit, that they would retire him.

I mean I make my feelings about twit very clear but I also make clear he isn’t going to cost this team many wins. And for the most part he can probably win in the playoffs if his offense is clicking. But errors like letting Elder see that lineup twice and using reliever based on inning and not leverage situations will cost some playoff wins.

But still feel the org and the team would fare better with a younger smarter manager. Someone who was involved more.

The team may have a radically different view of its needs in July than right now. The bench is more valuable In October. It's worth having the flexibility. Currently if a pitcher went down Monty and Snell are still out there and if a OF went down the team could sign the Duvall/Rosario platoon. That d

Basically even if potentially not in game optimal I think the roster is loaded enough for the Braves to keep flexibility on the bottom of the roster during spring training and the early part of the season for the unknown and that doing so will likely help us more over the course of the year.

I don’t think anyone is asking for a deep bench, rather a couple guys who actually belong on an MLB roster.

And to be clear, we are discussing the 20th most important thing about roster construction because AA has already handled the most 19 important things. When a team has the best roster in the sport all that’s left to argue about are the bits around the edges.

Yup. There will be a bunch of good players available on waivers because they are out of options and didn’t make the cut.

Saw an article today that said either Pache or Cave would be waived by the Phillies and suggesting that Pache would be a good 4th OF for the Braves.

For better or for worse... I think the Braves are a lot more bullish on Forrest Wall than most of the fans are. They are excited about his adjustments from the way you hear DOB talk about him. He does have the pedigree. We will see.

I have a hunch that if Kelenic doesn’t pan out, Wall just may turn out to be a happy surprise.

FWIW, AA made the comment a few times that he’s extremely confident Acuña will be in the OD lineup. If the big man is confident, he’s fine.

Have I missed fried or Morton pitching yet. Are they hurt or just slow playing them?

Max is in the middle of an extension negotiation for Pennie’s on the dollar of market value. Wouldn’t want to risk his negotiation leverage !

He’ll be 34 by season’s end but I’m still surprised he settled for 3 years even with that high AAV

It’s more than $25m over 5 years if he went that way instead. Makes sense to me why he took it
