He struggled with his command a bit and still had a decent start?

Sure, but I hate seeing walks. That's what seems to plaque our pitching prospects

I agree, but as a reliever to finish the year. That way it limits his innings so there isn't a huge jump in innings pitched, gives him a chance to acclimate to the majors going into next year when he can compete for a rotation spot, and hopefully gives us another elite reliever to use in October.

As cajun said, I agree he will come up as a reliever. AJSS will get a shot at the rotation if there's any injury (please God, no...). Hurston's splitter would be absurd as a reliever in the short term.

Whoa, Jose Perdomo is skipping the Dominican Summer League and starting in the Florida Complex League, which begins tomorrow.

Pretty intriguing group of hitters: https://www.milb.com/florida-complex/roster/464.

Mario Baez and John Gil with Perdomo on the infield, Guanipa and Douglas Glod in the outfield.

I didn't know that Horacio Ramirez was the pitching coach.

Interested to see how the 2023 DSL hitters do (and Perdomo as well).

Curious if any pitchers will emerge. DSL staff was miserable last year. Staff had more BBs than Ks and a 1.799 WHIP. 6.60 Team ERA.

Just curious, 50, what are your personal Recollections of Horacio Ramirez, in his playing days? I seem to remember us calling him horrible ratios or something, lol

MadduxFanII can chine in. He's the wizard with language and I believe he came up with both Horrible Ratios and Sucking Vortex of Doom for Vinnie Castilla.

Only thing I really remember about Ramirez is that he lacked an out pitch. He had a couple of middling seasons, but it was mostly on moxie. You just don't get very far with a K/BB ratio of 1.2 and a WHIP of 1.485. I seem to remember Leo really chewing him out a few times on visits to the mound, probably for nibbling.

Can't believe yall are giving Horacio the business. Lol. OK..I can. He was the definition of "mid," or worse. One year he gave up 20+ hrs. But he outdid that and gave up 30+ one year. He tried. And through it all, I think he has a winning record in the majors. Shows you how great wins and loses are.

In another note, he did have trade value as he netted the Braves Rafael Soriano in a trade with the Mariners. Soriano gave the Braves 3.6 WAR over three (one abbreviated due to injury) seasons and had 27 saves in 2009. Soriano was later traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for (drum roll please) Jesse Chavez. Soriano did not have horrible ratios with a career 3.25 K/BB and a 1.078 WHIP. Braves were hovering in no-man's land in the late-aughts and didn't want to spend more on Soriano and instead signed Billy Wagner for less than what Soriano made with the Rays. Wagner was stellar in his only season with the Braves, which was his last season.

I dont know why anyone would hate on Horacio. If he sucks and we are starting him its because we dont have better options. Thats not his fault. Looking back on his stats his ratios were worse than I remembered them, but he did have about a 4.50 ERA as a brave. That aint too bad these days. Not what you want from the front end but if thats your #5 starter you aint complaining much. Plus he actually pitched 200 innings one year. Its been almost 10 years since someone has done that for the Braves.
