We've gone 10-2 and they've gone 11-2 in the last two weeks. They could say the same about us, but it does seem like this is going to be a fight for awhile.

The Phillies are a better team than I gave them credit for. Might actually be a division race this year. Their SP is over performing but their pen is under performing. I expect that to balance out but I expect them to win 90+ games.

Trying to monitor teams and performance to gauge what could be available at the trade deadline. What do people think about Erik Fedde of the White Sox. They are clearly sellers and he is performing well. He signed this last offseason to a 2 year 15 million deal after pitching in Korea last year. He always lacked an out pitch and seems to have found it with a splitter. I kind of see Fedde as a Morton level pitcher. Just younger. The rotation seems fine now but we could continue giving guys extra rest between starts and going with a 6 man rotation so long as everyone is healthy and performing. This would seemingly set our rotation for next year and not require signing or re-signing anyone for the rotation as a priority this offseason.

Phillies schedule has been insanely easy so far. The only winning teams they have played thus far are Cincy and us. I guess Pitt was .500 when they faced them, but that was 2 weeks into the season. It's possible the Phillies may not play another team with a record above .500 until Texas rolls around in 3 weeks. But starting June through the end of the season their schedule becomes brutal.

Gotta beat the teams you’re supposed to beat. They’re a good team if they don’t suffer any major injuries.

Phillies are indeed good. But we'll see just how good in July-August when they get CHC, Us, LAD, Min, Cle, NYY, SEA, LAD, and AZ in about in a span of about 40 days. The only guaranteed series win is gonna be Oakland. If they go even .500 during that stretch, I will be very surprised.

We talk about bad organizations a lot, but the Angels have to be the worst run organization in all of sports over the last 10-15 years don't they?

They have had arguably the best overall player the sport has seen in the last 60-70 years. Then they add a international superstar that is also one of the best overall players this sport has ever seen. And yet they have 1 playoff appearance since Trout first came up in 2011. In fact, they have only 4 winning seasons total since 2011. Obviously other franchises have been poorly run over this time, but no other team has the financial advantages the Angels have had. However, they spend money like drunken sailors.

Since 2011, they have had at least 1 complete albatross of a contract on their payroll each and every year, eating up around 20% or more of their payroll. And in most of these years, they had several albatrosses. In 2015, they famously paid 89.5 million (more than 60% of their payroll) for Pujols, Hamilton, CJ Wilson, Aybar, and Weaver. Those 5 players produced a combined 7.1 bWAR.

Makes you really appreciate having a GM like AA.

I agree with every point you made but would like to point out I don't blame any of the GMs they've had. Their issue is their meddling owner.

i feel like their GMs deserve at least a little blame if you look at their drafting and player development. despite all that mediocrity they've developed almost no one - since 2011 their most successful draftees have been mike clevinger, CJ cron and david fletcher, and their current farm system is one of the worst in the majors.

Ex-Brave minor leaguer (who I think spent two or three days on the Braves' 26-man roster) Roddery Munoz won his first big league game Wednesday for the Marlins. Braves converted him to a reliever midway through the minors and it was thought that was his future, but the Marlins are using him as a starter. Curious how it turns out for him, but his uneven minor league performance certainly justified the Braves' decision to move on from him.

Marlins are his third team in less than a year. Braves waived him last July and the Nationals picked him up. Nationals waived him in December and he went to the Pirates. Later in December, the Marlins purchased him from the Pirates. His minor league stats are very uneven. Good-to-very good strikeout numbers but big-time control issues.

His identical twin brother Rolldy is pitching for the Rome Braves. Same big arm, same control issues as his brother. If the brothers were both major league caliber, I'd put one of them on the 26-man and have the other just hanging out and they could just be swapped on a day-to-day basis without anyone really knowing. Talk about an inventive load management idea.

Has anyone taken a look at Chris Sale's Savant page lately? I know the injury concerns will always be there, but he's been incredible: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savan...r-pitching-mlb

Elly De La Cruz on pace to be the first 40/100 guy. That's 40 homers and 100 steals.

stolen base records are so watered down at this point. Not that it isn't impressive, but that the league made it too easy to steal now..

Yep mostly because of the two move to first limit. Runners just have free reign now.

Their GM and player development are to blame. Their owner wanting to sign Pujols to that huge deal 15 years ago isn't the reason they can't make the playoffs.
