Never going to develop our own pitching if we keep trading it for rentals. AJSS is an incredible prospect that wouldnt have gotten higher than AA if he was on most teams last year. Dont penalize him in your mind because he was pushed aggressively and didnt set the world on fire in the majors immediately. He just needs reps to improve the consistency of his pitches. He can throw 9 great sliders but if he hangs the 10th one that can go 400+ feet in the majors.

I think the key now is not to overreact. Braves have a great offense and a great bullpen. They've got a decent set of back-of-the-rotation options in Gwinnett. They can patch things together and don't have to make a move unless the wheels fall off.

Smith-Shawver should spend as much time as possible in Gwinnett. He was rushed last year (which has unfortunately become a pattern throughout baseball) and needs to sharpen his secondary pitches. I was just listening to Pedro Martinez on The MLB Network and his assessment as that too many young pitchers are rushed up through systems and haven't built up enough strength and endurance and further that teams don't work as hard building sound mechanics.

They are going to have to get creative with rosters. Allow teams to carry extra pitchers and you can have only so many active for each game. Could get complicated and teams would surely try to game it, but I don't see any other way. Third-time-through will even be a thing of the past. Spread innings.

I don't see the point of suspending players who have already missed so much time due to the arrest. He is effectively already serving a suspension. Its good to see teams take this stuff seriously but I do wonder what happens when there are false accusations, a player can't get that time back.

Not to beat a dead horse, but isn't that essentially what happened to Bauer.

Granted, he admitted to having rough sex and the things that he did are inexcusable. However, it was determined by the police and baseball that it was not sexual assault as the woman had claimed. It turned out that the woman had asked for that stuff and then turned around trying to get money out of it.

In a case like that and where the player is determined innocent, I wish the league would come out vindicating the player. They come out and say there will be no suspension, however, that player is still guilty in the court of public opinion. Bauer has been black listed from baseball, and he could be a Cy Young candidate which is unfortunate.

Also, not to be forgotten, the players on admin leave are being paid while they are away from the team.

I dont know the specifics of the case but he is also known for being an immature prick and a clubhouse cancer. He would probably be on a team if not for that bad rep.
