Its kind of the Padres thing. Trade for a player with multiple years left then trade them when theres only 1 year left. Its a great strategy if the team is good at scouting. Compare the Soto trades. Was the package the Padres traded better than what they got back from trading him? Not in how we viewed the players at the time but in terms of what those players became. Plus the Padres need to cut payroll and theres not a lot of good options for them to do it. Personally I would love to get Arraez from them. Play him in LF and he can fill in at 2b for Ozzie's DL stints. In terms of OPS he isnt great but he is a different type hitter than all the sluggers in our lineup. We need some diversity in our hitter types if we want a consistent offense.

Then that’s probably by they want to trade him. AA wouldn’t make the trade if he knew he couldn’t extend him.

btw.. I did check and the Braves will receive a pick after the 4th round for losing Fried.
makes you wonder if trading him at the Break would have been a smarter move with how cursed last season was.

In terms of winning we should have been sellers as soon as Acuna went down. We could have solid Fried/Minter/Morton for players that can help us in 2025. We could have even got under the luxury tax to reset the penalties. But winning isnt the goal. Making money is the goal.
