I honestly don't want Cease as a one year rental... Giving up a haul on a year of 1 player when there is so much uncertainty, is not worth it to me. Too many other holes that have not been filled to being buying just a one year guy.
Braves have lost
Minter
JJ
Chavez
Fried
Morton
TDA
Ramon
Still have to deal with these sucking
Asscia
KeleNOT
Another OF for a month or so.
AA needs to either reset the Lux tax or address those issues before buying a 1 year rental.

That one-year rental is one of the best pitchers in baseball and more than covers a large portion of losing Fried and Morton, though. I'd prefer we extend him long term, but if the deal is there, you likely make it. Especially in the dead heat of a contention window. Yes, you don't do a massive overpay, but AA seems to be approaching it the right way.
But also, AA has very literally let players walk and created holes by trading guys like Soler. So it's time to get off your ass.

I do think Nacho makes a lot of sense for them in a Cease trade. But they obviously would want a better piece and SP option to replace Cease. AJSS (or Waldrep) and Nacho plus a mid level prospect like Guanipa or Lara for Cease and Suarez seems like a trade that makes sense for both sides.
Boob says the Dodgers are shopping Brasier. What would they exact from us in a trade? Money to sign that the top Japanese guy next offseason?
At 37 years old and pretty mediocre career, Brasier should be practically free. While he only cost 4 million American dollars, surely we could find a similar RP on the relief market who would sign for something close to that or league minimum. Hell, I would probably take Chavez back for league minimum over this dude.
Hopefully the Dodgers find no takers are forced to cut him and eat that 4 million.

The league should just collude to not trade with the Dodger$.. make them cut players as a price to build their all star team.

I didn't realize it was that bad. I thought about him or Tatis. Tatis is only making 20 per right now but jumps to 36 next year so that wouldn't work. For Cease I wouldn't trade Baldwin or Caminiti but I would anybody else for him. I'm guessing AA is trying to get another piece along with Cease.

Cease for nacho makes perfect sense and is very close to the sale for Grissom trade. I’m the low man on AJSS and Waldrep, but including either is too much.

I'd do that deal and I think AA and the Padres could find a middle ground. I think Boras being his agent is what would cause some hesitation bc he knows Cease will be the top SP on the market next offseason. AA would have to offer pretty much market value to resign him which I would be fine with. Cease is from Georgia so that does help. He may have to over ride Boras and tell him to get it done. AA wanted Crochet but refused on Baldwin so he isn't gonna trade him and shouldn't at this point. Getting Cease and signing him long term would allow AA to concentrate on just 1 of Tucker or Bichette next offseason.
San Diego fans are wanting Baldwin, 1 of Waldrep/AJSS, AND Owen Murphy.
Just thinking out loud, but I wonder if a Nacho Alvarez and Hurston Waldrep (or AJSS) trade for Cease and Robert Suarez would work for both sides?
