Any particular reason you stopped at 4 years not 5 years? How about 6 years ago?

Fried throws less innings than Cole even with Cole having some injury sisues. That's not a selling point for fried. Max "can't pitch into the 7th inning" Fried isn't a selling point. If that was a massive selling point, Blake Snell despite getting a Cy Young couldn't sign a massive contract, and Max Fried is no Blake Snell

Yeah, Cole clears Fried by a good bit. Other than Game 6 of the WS where Fried was incredible, legendary game that may get his jersey retired in Atlanta. He's been quite underwhelming in the postseason. There's a reason the Yankees signed Cole quickly.

Joe Jimenez had knee surgery, out 8-12 months.

Free agency is three hours old, and we’ve already suffered a season ending injury. The most Braves outcome ever.

Best case, hope hes back for July/September to ramp up for the playoffs. Certainly puts bullpen as a bigger hole with Minter most likely gone also.

I used 4 years because 2020 was the COVID quarter season and 2019 was essentially Fried's rookie season. But we can use 5 or 6 years if you like. It doesn't change much.

Since 2019 Fried has 22.2 bWAR , compared to Cole's 26.5, despite Cole having 150 more IP. Certainly those extra 150 IPs are significant, but their WAR per start is nearly the same over that span. And again Fried is 3.5 years younger.

Sixto Sanchez officially a free agent. Never became the stud he had a chance to become due to shoulder issues. However wouldn’t be a bad buy low target to see if he can learn to be a crafty pitcher in Gwinnett

Am I to understand that Cole decided to Opt out, was told by the NYY "good luck" and then pulled back the opt out?

Yes, you understand it perfectly. And it is very odd to say the least.

Cole tried to force the Yankees hand to get the extra year at $36M, and Cashman called Boras' bluff. Faced with having to match or beat 4/144 or look like a fool, Boras went back with his tail tucked between his legs hoping to keep the deal he already had that was probably a bit of an overpay. Gotta love it.

Is one year for Fried really a quality offer?

Cole could probably get a little more in total dollars on the open market, but his per year value would go down considerably. A big risk for him instead of keeping the same deal

Dude thinks he runs baseball player transactions as a whole, and tries to hold entire offseasons hostage with his clients refusing to sign in a reasonable amount of time. I'm glad it has backfired on him lately with more guys being forced to take horrible deals late in the winter and then struggle early the next season.

I'm all for labor getting everything they are owed from the owners, but Boras has taken it to the level where it's impossible to continue calling the owners the bad guys.

I could get behind the Braves picking up Nate to replace Mort. 3 years 40-50 mill should get it done. But since Bowman reported it, means there is no chance of it happening.

MLB top 50 free agent predictions released. Not much predicted for the Braves other than the laughable Danny Jansen prediction by one person. We are projected to get HSK on a 1 year deal as well. I think he works for us because he might not be right to start the year but we need him late in the year when he will be farther from his shoulder surgery.

Boras already stating Soto is willing to wait until late in ST to sign the deal he's looking for. Of course he's going to make the Soto contract hold the entire off season hostage. I hope it backfires and Soto is forced to take a Correa type deal with a team like the Twins,
