    DOTW 4/1/'14: Future managers

Didn't know how to fit the idea of this debate into one little title.

Basically, what former Brave players (any time frame, can still be playing) would you think make the best future manager.

My pick is McCann. I think he possesses the necessary leadership qualities that most managers have. He also as a catcher is used to reading situations, etc.

    Just my personal pick.

Some others that come to mind

Chipper, long time icon, I don't think I'd want him managing the Braves, I can't think of a time that worked out for a team. Also all too often great players don't make great managers.

David Ross, see him as a future manager to be honest. Has all the seeming makings

Kris Medlen, maybe more of a dark horse pick of my additional trio, but I think he has the personality to be a wonky manager that you're bound to find a few in baseball.

Smoltz would make a good manager in my opinion. Although he loves his booth job he hs now.

A lot of guys who made a sh*tload of money as a player simply don't want to put up with the BS of managing. Ross probably makes the most sense of the guys you've listed. I see guys like McCann and Chipper being celebrity coaches in spring training.

Hinske is first base coach for the Cubs I believe. Ross also strikes me as managerial material. Tim Hudson would be a very good pitching coach if he was interested.

Laird/Fredi of course is already a manager. A very fine one too.

I think Andruw can manage. He always had a great brain and instincts just couldn't stop swinging at trash.

Greg Maddux is probably one of the only elite players in history that could be a successful manager.

As if it's even a question. If Lockhart was managing right now BJ Upton wouldn't be having a terrible season.

If Lockart was the manager, would he still have the "Lockhart" pictures?

    My mind just exploded.

Funny, the first names that came to mind for me were all catchers: Eddie Perez, David Ross, and McCann.

Funny, not so much. Almost half of the current big league mgrs are former catchers, its the rage.

    Hank White.

There are a lot of guys, like Chipper, who were good players but made enough money to where managing is more crap than they need to put up with. Better to come to spring training as a roving instructor and get some hunting, fishing and drinking in.
