Remember back in 2012, where it seemed like every Braves-Nats game ended with Washington pulling some kind of rabbit out of its hat and finding a way to break our hearts in the late innings?

    Suck it, two years ago.

Thomas has more velocity than some seem to note, he hit 94 mph against the Nats and hit 93 mph quite a bit too (struck Harper out on a 93 mph high fastball). I really believe we've found a gem in Thomas. I like him as a starter too, so hope to see him get a shot at it again in the future.

By the way...a scary bad stat

Freddie Freeman has been on base 13 times in 5 games and has only scored 3 runs and 2 of those were on his homers.

Scary good...Freeman had 6 walks in 53 PA in April last year...he already has 6 this year.

From the Nats board from 09-12.

    2012: 10-8
    2011: 9-9
    2010: 10-8
    2009: 8-10

But yes, did seem they got every break, every big hit, made the big pitches to win the close games vs us then.

    Hard to say.

Is he better in the pen, would his velocity go down if he went into the rotation as he went through the order 2nd/3rd time around?

His average velocity is lower as a starter, sure. But it isn't as low as some have assumed. As a starter like Wood he isn't going to throw as hard to go deeper in the game. Further, Thomas did great starting in AA last year the second half. He'd be in the G-Braves rotation if he didn't make the Braves this year.

Strasburg hasn't beat us since 2012.

Also, Fredi has owned the Nationals, 25-6 in the last 31 contests.

I like it. The fresher we can keep Gattis the better he will hit imo

That's my biggest concern with Gattis. Doumit is terrible behind the plate, but I think the marginal rate of return on Gattis past 400 ABs wouldn't be that great.

    Doumit looked OK last night.

    Not awful, but serviceable.

Not saying he should be our every-day C, but he should get some starts there to keep Gattis fresh.

2008 I believe the Nats beat the Braves 12-6 that year.

Exactly. Doumit wasn't nearly as bad last night as everyone makes him out to be. He's far from great but he got the job done.

Watch him over a longer stretch. I don't subscribe to a lot of the deep stats stuff, but Fangraphs did an awesome article on Doumit a year or so ago that pretty much cemented his place as terrible defensive catcher, especially with pitch framing.
