I'm concerned about the high throws, but I'm pretty happy with Gattis as a receiver. I mean he blocked a bunch of balls last night and looked pretty good doing it. I don't see a problem there at all. He had I think one wild pitch on a ball that he was in a perfect blocking position. Can't block them all.

Which is why I left out the walk part. I'm not saying Francoeur is in any way better than Heyward. But just watching these three hoppers to second reminds me so much of how Francoeur used to look and they both seem (seemed in Francouer's case) to saw themselves off a lot.

Heyward is the far superior player for his isoOBP, fielding, and base-running, but he's got some big problems swinging the bat and I'm starting to wonder if that disease is more serious than originally thought.

It was that and the throws that really weren't close to the mark or on time. If I saw that game as an opposing manager I'm sending everyone I have thats faster than Adam Laroche and daring him to gun us. I hope thats just a blip on the radar, but coupled with a struggle at the plate we might be forced to make a move.

Once again, im hoping that was just a blip and not the norm.

Last year Gattis was fine throwing runners out doing so at a 33% clip which is better than average. Even this year he's still above the league average.

What's more concerning is looking at last years numbers, he had 17 WP and 2 PB, Mac had 17 WP and 3 PB. Mac played almost 600 more innings though.

    lol concerning...

Mac's only been a starting catcher in the league for almost 10 years... whereas Gattis was sweeping up floors.

I think what Gattis did was amazing all things considered, having to re-learn how to be a catcher and learn how to play left field and first base.

Gattis is actually not bad at throwing runners out, was fairly good in the minors at doing so. He is just pretty bad at WP/PB like you said.

Jason will be okay. He is so young still. No need to worry about him.
