    Defensive Numbers So Far

This will be a running thread similar to what I did last year on scout from time to time.

DRS has finally updated and I will be using those for our 8 regulars

    Justin - +2
    BJ - +2
    Heyward - +5
    CJ - 0
    Simmons - +1
    Uggla - 0
    Freeman - 0
    Gattis - 0

It's early so not much you can take out of this except Heyward is amazing and should once again be one of the top defensive RFers in the game. Also good to see the Uptons start off well in the defensive department.

I'm amazed that Justin is +2. He doesn't look to have THAT much range out there and he's played a few balls poorly this season whether it's cutting it off or fielding it in the gaps.

I am too but again I'm not sure what date those numbers are through but it's early. I still suspect he will be below average out when the season is done.

Part of the thing is that left fielders suck. Michael Morse being back in the field helps a bunch

This has to be what it is because I think its a stretch even saying UPton is an average defensive outfielder. At the plate is a different story.

The pure suckage of some leftfielders is why I take fault with WAR for GOrdon and Gardner. Not fault to the point of saying they're garbage and should lose all their defense cause that's also moronic. but I think with then you can probably skew about half a win in value because of how terrible some people are that throw off the metric. To me Heyward and simmons posting a 20 and 41 DRS is infinitely more impressive because they're playing against generally all quality players.
