Casual marijuana use could lead to brain damage

Here's the link to the scientific study:

    link

I had trouble copying the abstract so you'll have to read for yourself.

    Some key points:

Brain structural damage is apparent in animals.

Brain structural damage was shown for human test subjects for this study, but can't be proven for ethical reasons. It's impossible to find a true sample of test subjects in this country because doing so would be unethical.
    thank you weso1!

I feel like my OP was extremely scientific and you really brought it down a couple of notches with your post.

There's still overall very little evidence either way to say much about it. There are always studies coming out that say positive and/or negative things. One a while ago killed cancer cells in mice. Not sure it does that in humans.

That's not to say this study doesn't have value, I know it does. For now I just prefer to use my anecdotal experiences with it.

love all the scare stories now

i really don't get why the DEA is even fighting this now

they should be shifting their focus to other drugs that cause actual harm

Even if it did cause brain damage, people should have the right to accept that risk

I think the true lesson here is that we need unethical studies.

I read an overview of this a day or so back. I never doubted it had permanent altering effects -- just like anything put into your body.
Having that information available is not a bad thing. But, I agree with Sturg

    What is an unethical study?

I feel like my memory has been shot from habitual smoking for 7 years. I'm still able to to hold information for short periods of time currently as evidenced by destroying the CPA exams.

I'm curious how you support a person's right to potentially harm their body, but don't support their right to not insure themselves.

Wouldn't some of that be aging? What else coukld effect your short term memory. Ever get a whiff of what servers use to clean the tables between diners in restaurants?
What about air poluttion? What about the chemicals used in the filling in couch pillows ?

I agree with Ace -- the end is near

I do support their right to not insure themselves.

just like in this case, there are pros and cons. Actions and reactions.

Well in this case they need people who do not smoke pot to make the experiment more accurate. Essentially you're asking them to start doing something that you believe could be harmful.

In a libertarian society we could have better studies!
    thank you weso1!
