    GDT #21, 4/23/14: Marlins (Eovaldi) @ Braves (Harang), 12:10

Neither Upton and Uggla is STILL there. I have no issue with giving the Upton brothers a day off, but why would you leave Uggla in there and not let Pena get some at-bats? Over all, I'm pretty happy with the lineup actually. I like giving the guys some rest and I like our 1-5. I know there's not a whole lot of Doumit love on this board, but I like the guy and he needs some at-bats either way. Let's hope Harang stays hot and we can finish this series with a win before the Reds come in!

    Braves
    1. Heyward RF
    2. Simmons SS
    3. Freeman 1B
    4. Johnson 3B
    5. Doumit LF
    6. Uggla 2B
    7. Schafer CF
    8. Laird C
    9. Harang RHP

P.S. I'll be at the game this Saturday, so we need to start a streak here!

The Uptons have both struggled against Eovaldi. Uggla on the other hand has an OPS of .836 against him in 16 plate appearances. Fredi's decisions on who to rest today make sense in light of this information. But I'm sure he'll be here soon enough to explain his thinking.

You have to play your bench players some to keep them sharp.

Yeah but it's usually these type of lineups that score 4-5 runs.

People always say that. Not sure if it's true. Would be interesting if there was a way to do a study on it.

It's a noon game, c'mon man. We also haven't had many off days either and have played some extra inning games. Guys need some rest, every manager in baseball tends to do this.

I actually wish R.Pena was in there and Uggla took a day off. Yeah, even though Uggla doesn't have much to show for it he has hit the ball hard to RF more times than I saw all of last year.

There's a day off tomorrow and you have opportunity to win the series. If we won last night instead of Herbandez vending us over, then yea I see the point. But this lineup isn't fair to Harang. At leave Gattis in instead of Laird ass

I'd like to see Pastornicky at second about once a week. So far he's gotten one game and the season is three weeks old. Looking at the matchups in the Reds series, I see that Uggla has an OPS of .485 against Bailey, 1.817 against Leake and .919 against Cueto. So there is one logical game where he should get a rest.

Evoldi is a similar pitcher to Fernandez, not as good, but he'll attack the Braves hitters the same way Fernandez did, with the fastball and using the breaking ball away to the RHH's as an out pitch. So I'm glad Fredi got some of the guys who were totally helpless last night out, like Gattis and Justin. Moving Bj out of the 2 hole is always appreciated.

Would have like to see another singles hitter in there instead of Uggla (one that can actually field would be ideal), but, overall, its a good lineup for the circumstances.

Harang should be able to continue his hot start vs a Marlin team that looks almost as clueless at the plate as we do.

I think there is maybe some truth to the idea of him having a month or two leash and is getting every opportunity to prove his value and worth before the cord is cut.

Possibly this and its allowing LaStella to get into a groove as well. He isn't hitting for power but TLS is still not striking out and getting on base. That is what we need more than anything else.
