Hopefully the next couple days assuage Fredi's Constanz Craving.

Just need to get a split for this series. It's not too unrealistic?

Schafer isn't a leadoff hitter. He is a bench player. Heyward is a much better option. Simmons is pretty much the worst option.

Like I said, I don't mind him being there considering the options.

I am hoping Constanza stays hot while he's here. He had an 8 game hitting streak going in AAA. Plus the only game he didn't have a hit in his last 10 or so he walked twice. So for at least his last ten games Constanza has been on one of his hot streaks. He can really help an offense when he's on a hot streak. It's just outside of those streaks he doesn't bring much offensively.

Ok, let the spring training line-up hit them out of Turner Field!

Here is a better way to clarify my issue:

With a healthy lineup, Fredi believes that Simmons is the best leadoff option. With THIS crippled lineup, which includes Simmons, he thinks Constanza is.

That is what I would do.
CJ is 0-9 with 5 strikeouts vs Homer. So this wouldn't be a game to try him up top.

Seriously don't understand the Jose Constanza love. In 2011 after his hot start he came crashing back down to earth when he hit .170/.204/.170 (.304) in 50 PA. In 2012 in 86 PA he hit .250/.321/.276 (.598). This year at Gwinnett he was hitting .263/.320/.305 (.625).

And I should clarify I'm not just talking about this board. I'm talking about from Braves fans in general.

I think the answer is simple. Anyone without a broken bone should be in the lineup. Jason, BJ, Justin, Gattis . . . all these guys are in their 20s, and therefore immune to serious injury.

Bet he has a less-worse game than Simmons. How well Constanza does depends on how deep the catcher is playing.

He only moved him down one spot in the order. You are making way too big of an issue out of this.

A lot of casual fans likely just remember how much he helped us his first call-up. He started hot and folks remember that hot streak. As I noted earlier, Constanza was hot in AAA so I am just hoping it continues while he's here. I agree (and also noted in my post) that he doesn't bring much offensively outside of when he's on a hot streak. However, Constanza does have at least one very good hot streak per season, but he still doesn't hit enough otherwise.

But Simmons may do well in the 2nd spot.

    1st - .230/.266/.333 (.600) in 260 PA
    2nd - .313/.328/.391 (.719) in 68 PA
    7th - .273/.365/.436 (.801) in 63 PA
    8th - .290/.338/.406 (.744) in 151 PA

Pretty much any spot that isn't the lead off spot is a much better spot for Simba.

But the fact that he has to get Constanza on the roster to move him is the point. Heyward would be a great option in the lead off spot.

So, what will be the GDT disagreement today?

As you know, I've said Simmons makes more sense batting second than lead-off. I've also long wanted Heyward to lead-off given our options but Fredi will be Fredi.
