The old saying: "You learn something new everyday".

The thread for useful/useless/random/historic/odd/weird/hot/cold stats. I've seen stat gems lost in the GDT and others, so this is the perfect place to put it just so people might've missed it or not seen it.

Note: If there's a stat about a specific game, feel free to post in that game thread after the game and in this thread.

From Fangraphs:

Here’s the simplest way to get right to the point. The Baseball-Reference Play Index allows us to search through games since 1914. Since 1914, there have been some thousands of games in which both starting pitchers allowed no more than one run. There have been 2,914 games in which both starting pitchers allowed no more than one run, while lasting at least eight innings. There have been 21 games in which both starting pitchers allowed no more than one run, while lasting at least eight innings, and recording double-digit strikeouts. There has been one game in which both starting pitchers allowed no more than one run, while lasting at least eight innings, and recording double-digit strikeouts, without a single walk. Alex Wood and Jose Fernandez combined to do that which had never been done.

So yeah it sucks that we lost but last night was just awesome pitching on both sides.

Through the first 22 games of the season, The Top 5 Teams with Fewest Runs Allowed:

53 - Atlanta
67 - Oakland
68 - St. Louis
70 - Milwaukee
70 - San Diego

We've allowed 14 fewer runs than the next best pitching staff.

Also, we have not had a starter give up more than 3 runs all season.

So apparently Aaron Harang is the last pitcher since PEDRO MARTINEZ to start a season with 5 straight appearances of 6+ innings and 1ER or less.

WOW!

I loved some Mac Attack, but $17 mill vs. 400k is a big difference for our team. These numbers don't tell the whole story, but so far looks like we've done alright.

Macs been on a tear here recently though. Hitting almost .400 over his last 7 games. Looks like he is about to go on one of his tears.

Can you somehow play the Lionel Richie/Diana Ross duet "Endless Stats" as background music for this thread? Oh wait, the song was "Endless Love." Never mind.

Love that video of Corky pitching and hitting the gun at 57.

I guess I could have been a pitcher.

His pitching is still far, far better than his hitting.

In 36 years of watching the Braves I can honestly say Miller was the worst non-pitcher I ever saw wearing a Braves uniform.

That prestigious honor still goes to Greg Norton in my book. Or Stan Belinda's excellent run in a Braves' uni.

Norton put up one decent year here. Miller has yet to put up a decent year for any major league team.

Yeah corky is fantastically horrible, career 54 wRC+ and .263 wOBA. Norton was that bad his last year with the Braves, but the year before he was way better (108 wRC+)

True story. I was at Wrigley back in 08 I think. Same season Chipper won the batting title. Anyway Corky hit a home run in one of the games and I had been telling everyone in my section how bad he was. After he hit a homer this couple behind me was very excited about it. Turned out to he his parents. Nice folks.

Corky must be a chip off the old block or his dad would've hit you.
