Trying to answer questions about Connor Oliver, who is enjoying his first full pro season at Rome. It's a mystery to me, because he only hit .271 his lone college season (Manatee JC) but he reportedly has a gun for an arm, much like Alejandro Piloto. Attended legendary DeMatha Prep in Maryland before heading to Manatee.

Currently has a 12-game hitting streak going! Bats left, throws right, BTW.

At what point do we determine whether Gosselin's 2014 is an aberration or a true step forward?

There is nothing in Connor Oliver's pre-draft or post-draft work that gives me an idea of what kind of player he may end up being. Only thing I've ever read is that he is "toolsy."

I'm curious of anyone's thoughts on the 23 year old Elmer Reyes. While 22 games is obviously a small sample size, he is tearing up AA so far to the tune of .369/.396/.583/.979. Is this an aberration due to a small sample size, or could he be a late-bloomer starting to "get it"?

I'm curious about Oliver. I'm hoping to go down to Lakewood on Saturday to see Rome play. Should be Gil's turn in the rotation again.

I've probably been Elmer Reyes' most consistent supporter on this site now and previous sites in the past. I don't know if he's going to hit consistently, but he is supposedly a solid glove guy. His performance thus far this year is a pleasant surprise and we'll have to see how long it lasts. Sometimes it takes awhile for things to come together for players and he did have a solid year in Lynchburg last season. He appears to be building on that but, like you say, it's a small sample size. AA is usually the place where prospects take a direction and the early returns look good for him.

I still view him as a glove-centric utility guy, at least in Atlanta with Simmons blocking him. If he continues to hit, he could be a trading chip.
