Dan Uggla to the Blue Jays?

Checking around various things on twitter apparently the Braves are actively shopping everyone's favorite whipping boy Dan Uggla

One potential landing zone involves Atlanta Braves trade rumors with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have their own embarrassing contract with Ricky Romero, who is currently toiling away with AAA Buffalo. The Blue Jays opening day second baseman, Ryan Goins, has also been demoted to AAA and could be a potential return piece for the Braves. Goins struggled offensively for the Blue Jays, but is just 26 and if the Braves offered up pitching in return, could convince the Blue Jays to get a deal done.
Something else for me to watch over the next 4 evenings. Will pay extra attention to these two.

We can only hope.....I'd love to bring Romero in here and throw him in the pen. Let Roger work some magic and get him in the NL.

Seems like wishful thinking to me. Im too lazy to look up Romero's contract, but if it runs any longer than next year I'd have no intrest. He would never crack our roster and at least Uggs is a FA after next year.

I thought Romero was going to be next great starting pitcher. Wow I had no idea he wasn't in the majors.

I don't think Romero is better than anyone already in the pen...

I would be all over this (rumored) deal like white on rice.

Suggested trying to snag Romero this past offseason -- I think he's a classic example of a guy who just needs a change in scenery.

He's due a hair over $15MM over the next two years. Braves would probably have to kick in a few million.

    Ricky Romero lhp
    5 years/$30.1M (2011-15), plus 2016 club option
    ◾5 years/$30.1M (2011-15), plus 2016 club option
    ◾signed extension with Toronto 8/14/10
    ◾$1.25M signing bonus
    ◾11:$0.75M, 12:$5M, 13:$7.5M, 14:$7.5M, 15:$7.5M, 16:$13.1M club option ($0.6M buyout)

Romero seems to be suffering from a version of Bill Blass/Rick Ankiel disease

    Walks/9 innings: 5.22 in 2012, 4.99 in AAA in 2013, 7.67 in AAA in 2014

Uggla for Romero would only be done if we sent something over to equalize the money. So we need to send them something over that is worth about $8M. They might take a package along the lines of Harang and a prospect such as Martin/Cunningham/Elmer Reyes.

They might consider a Uggla/Hale plus prospect for Romero straight up. Harang probably has no interest tp the Jays.

Romero makes 7.5 per year and his contract runs out next year unless the team option is picked up (600k buyout). Further, I am doubtful that the Blue Jays would have interest even if we paid the difference to make it an even money swap. But they might if we threw in a prospect they really like. And in that case they might even pay a little of Uggla's contract too. But I wouldn't give up someone like Hale just to save some money because I don't see it being a big amount saved (and I am higher on Hale than most here).

What is the purpose of trading Harang, who is a useful player for Romero? Uggla and some cash. But not the whole $8M. Uggla and 4 Million.

What is the purpose of trading Hale? We aren't trying to get Romero. It's a salary swap only.

I kind of doubt the Blue Jays value Uggla by $4M more than they value Romero. But you never know.

Maybe they think they can fix him like Bautista and Encarnacion.

They've given up on Romero, so at this point its a $4M gamble on Uggla.

Hey, I am all for such a trade if available. I just doubt they'd even pay a million or two difference. In other words, I doubt they would have such interest in Uggla unless we threw in another player they like. Then again I could be wrong if DOB knows what he's talking about this time. He said on twitter that he has been told that Toronto does have some interest in Dan Uggla. Of course their interest may be in an even swap type money deal (no real salary relief for us in other words). Time will tell.

It is not a salary swap. Uggla is owed 26M - Romero is owed 15M. You do the math. The Jays are pretty desperate for some pitching.

In case you missed it: Uggla by himself has absolutely no value TO ANYONE>

Keep in mind, CJC may just be going by the rumor and confirmed interest by Toronto according to DOB (see his twitter posts below). But even if true I'll be surprised if we get any real salary relief in such a trade.

    David O'Brien ‏@ajcbraves 5h
I'm told Jays are; not sure on Mariners. RT @jase1129: @ajcbraves Any truth to the rumor that Jays & Mariners are interested in Uggla?

    David O'Brien ‏@ajcbraves 3h
Yep, or take on another big salary “@briansmith10: @ajcbraves @jase1129 would the @Braves still have to eat much of the salary?”

I don't think this article is claiming Romero would be involved, I think it's just the kid Goins, and the Braves would have to give a pitcher for the Jays to take salary. I don't see Romero involved

If they want a pitcher they can have Harang or Varvaro, someone like that. :)

Why is there so much eagerness to unload Harang?
