Making an impressive debut for Lynchburg Saturday night was the newest member of the Braves' organization, left-hander Daniel Watts. A LaGrange native (Troup County HS) and Jacksonville State product, the D-Backs plucked up out of the 32nd round in 2012. He actually won 12 games as a starter LAST SEASON, but in the latest example of dubious player development, Arizona moved him to the bullpen this year, where he struggled and was recently released.
He's an athletic-sounding 6-3, 190 and is still only 24. He actually had an ugly looking career at JSU, but was a summer ball warrior. Four shutout innings, no walks in his debut for the Hillcats.
In the same game, Ryan Kelly made his Braves debut with two shutout innings in relief for Lynchburg. After being on the Mississippi DL all season, he was activated Saturday. He pitched in 51 games last season for Tuscon and San Antonio. He's a righty, a product of that ultra-successful Walters State program.
