ATLANTA -- The Braves have reached an agreement with Garrett Fulenchek, a right-handed pitcher taken in the second round of the First-Year Player Draft.

MLB.com's Jim Callis tweeted Saturday morning that Fulenchek will sign above slot for $1 million and receive eight semesters of college tuition at Dallas Baptist University under the college scholarship plan. As the Draft's 66th overall selection, the 18-year-old pitcher was slotted for an $866,000 signing bonus. The Braves have not confirmed the deal.

Fulenchek is expected to sign his deal on Tuesday and report to the Braves' Spring Training complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Thursday.

The Braves believe Fulenchek's projectable 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame will allow him to add velocity as he goes through the early portion of his professional career. His fastball has sat between 90-94 mph and his slider improved as spent the past few months completing his career at Texas' Howe High School.

"He just kept getting better this year," director of scouting Tony DeMacio said. "He's got a real projectable body and a lot of life on his fastball. Everything that he throws moves."

Somehow I don't think he qualifies for financial aid at Dallas Baptist given what his FAFSA is going to look like.

I haven't seen a lot of the draft stuff this year. I like the first two picks. Very high upside high school picks is where you make a living. Both of these guys could flame or boom. Either way, I like seeing the top HS kids taken and us going over slot for them. We did it last year with Salazar in the third.

    17. Ashton Perritt - College right handed reliever

Thanks Rico. Jake Godfrey was really the first player we took that looked like a tough signing. I'm guessing we'll sign our first 20 picks. And most of the next ten. And probably less than half of the last ten.

I'm guessing that 30-40, except maybe No. 31 Giardina, who is a senior, will be a zero like the last two years. Notable that four of the picks are sons of former big leaguers (including two ex-Braves) and their final pick is the son of their DSL manager.

Also JJ Franco, John's son. Senior at Brown. Taken in the 38th round. We went heavy on sons of ex-Mets in this draft.

Article about #12 pick Pat Dorrian. Sounds like he is undecided about college or pro.

The Braves' scout who has been watching him must really like him. He wasn't really highlighted by any of the other scouting services. Not saying who is right. Sounds like a good kid with some solid upside.

Here's a little blurb on #24 Kevin Reiher. It looks like he started his college career at Coastal Carolina, but didn't play as a freshman and transferred to Prairie State, a JC in Illinois.
