Braves interested in Samardzija or Hammel?

It's hard to know if I trust much of the filth that comes from ESPN, but if this is true, I'm confused. There's not any reason the Braves should be interested in either or?

    ESPN:

The Chicago Cubs have talked with multiple teams about trades involving ace Jeff Samardzija and veteran starter Jason Hammel, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Citing multiple sources, the Sun-Times reported that the Cubs may already have begun fielding trade offers from multiple teams. The report identified the Atlanta Braves, Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays as some of the teams most interested in acquiring either Samardzija or Hammel.

Jeff Samardzija has been mentioned as a potential trade target since the offseason, when he and the Cubs were unable to agree to a long-term deal.
Hammel could generate more interest than Samardzija because he likely will not command as large of a return in a trade, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney earlier this week. Hammel could be targeted by teams needing short-term rotation help like the Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles and Miami Marlins, according to Olney.

Samardzija is set to become a free agent after the 2015 season and has been speculated as a top trade target since this past offseason, when he was unable to agree to a long-term deal with the Cubs.

Samardzija, 29, is just 2-6 this season despite pitching to a 2.77 ERA. The right-hander went winless in his first 10 starts before finally claiming his first victory on May 26 against the San Francisco Giants.

Hammel, who will become a free agent after this season, also has been outstanding for the Cubs, going 6-4 with a 2.81 ERA in 13 starts. The nine-year veteran signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Cubs in February following a disappointing 2013 season with Baltimore.

Despite the solid pitching from Samardzija and Hammel, the Cubs (27-38) entered play Saturday with the lowest win total in the National League and just percentage points ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks (29-41) for the NL's worst record.

I really nope not. The price would be way too high and our problem is not the rotation.

If we could lock Samardjiza up I would love to trade for him. Replace Minor in the rotation and let's roll. Maybe we could trade Minor in a deal too.

Trade Minor? Why would you trade a good young LHP?

Samardizja is a guy you trade for anytime. Hammel makes no sense though. Our biggest need is a lefty in the bullpen but that can be gotten without alot of effort.

He's eligible for arbitration after this season though?

Criminy, I hope not. Our nearly barren minor league system would be further tapped and what good is another starter on a team that might as well use toothpicks as bats.

I still think we need one more good starter, but I don't think we're in a position to overpay for that. And if we were going to overpay, I'd take a bigger name than Samardzija. Much bigger needs in the bullpen and on the bench.

    WTF?
Minor is a better pitcher than Samardjiza. The "grass is always greener" syndrome is strong on this board.
Yup, let's dump a guy we already have for a guy we'd have to pay to get. Brilliant.

I think once Wood moves back the rotation, we will be fine. Floyd is a solid #5.

We have the 3rd best rotation in the NL most likely. There is room to improve but replacing Floyd/Harang with Wood does that. Minor has also been disappointing so far but we've seen him struggle then turn it on in the past.

Minor's track record is closer to him pitching poorly. Last season was a fluke. He isn't nearly that good.
